Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
At 20, Jaci Velasquez is already a Christian-music veteran, but she truly comes into her own on Crystal Clear, her third English-language album. Velasquez says she had more creative input on this project than anything she's done before, and it shows in the album's aura of confidence and creativity. With a memorable mix of Latin-flavored tunes, sensitive power ballads, and upbeat dance numbers that Britney Spears would kill for, the aptly-titled Crystal Clear shows the singer to be firmly in control. Jaci's teen-pop roots get their due on the opening track "Escuchame (Listen to Me)," which Velasquez cowrote. On that track, she cautions her chart-topping peers that ...

Jaci's teen-pop roots get their due on the opening track "Escuchame (Listen to Me)," which Velasquez cowrote. On that track, she cautions her chart-topping peers that happiness lies with God, not chart position and SoundScan numbers. "I've been there before," she sings. "Let me save you some pain -- Baby, don't make the same mistakes." It's a strong message wrapped in a sassy Latin-pop rhythm, but its power comes from the fact that Velasquez knows of what she sings. While such tender ballads as the lovely "Come As You Are" (a duet with Latin star Louis Fonsi) show Velasquez's more emotional side, Crystal Clear noteworthiness lies in its emotional strength and musical maturity.
All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann
It may be unfair to call Hispanic contemporary Christian music singer Jaci Velasquez CCM's answer to Christina Aguilera, since she got her start well before such secular competitors. But on her fourth album, Velasquez adopts many of the vocal and musical mannerisms of teen pop's Latin side. In the video interviews on the disc's CD-Rom portion, Velasquez notes that she encountered criticism in the Christian community, who charged she was abandoning CCM with her last album, the Spanish-language release Llegar a Ti. She says Crystal Clear's title track makes her religious commitment plain, but like several other songs on the album, the song can be interpreted as a woman's declaration of love to a lover rather than one of faith in God. Though she tosses in the word "Lord" on some songs, Velasquez usually employs the terminology of romantic love rather than religious faith. "There's a union of two becoming one/Deep inside my heart," she sings in "Adore"; such intimacies suggest a highly idealized boyfriend rather than a merciful savior, no matter how many pronouns are capitalized on the lyric sheet. While Velasquez convincingly imitates Britney Spears-style groans, as the album progresses, she and her producers don't maintain the teen pop sound. Eventually, she begins to sound a lot like the artist who is no doubt her real model, the young Amy Grant. It's no surprise after listening to "Come As You Are," a duet with Louis Fansi, to read the credit "vocals produced by Brown Bannister", Grant's early mentor. Four albums on, Jaci Velasquez still seems to be searching for a style of her own.

When the holy spirit "inhabits our praise" we are close to his love and fellowship with him. So lets sing along with Jaci and give praise and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ.

    She's Great!

Why do critics always say that Jaci still hasn't found her own style? She has,it's just a varied style. It's pop, dance,& latin-why do artists always have to stick to one genre of music? Jaci has to represent a variety of styles, especially her latin style.Kudos to her for being herself-an original. When I have my own records,I will have my own eclectic mix of alternative rock, pop, dance, salsa, cumbia and ranchera.

    Fantastic!!!

GO JACI! I LOVE THIS CD. EVERY SINGLE CUT IS MARVELOUS.POWERFUL TO TENDER VOCALS TOUCHED MY HEART. FROM UPBEAT TUNES THAT MAKE YOU DANCE TO ONES THAT MAKE YOU PULL YOUR CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO CRY- THIS ONE IS A KEEPER. ON THE SONG ''ADORE'' JACI SINGS ''ADORE, ADORE, ADORE, JESUS I ADORE YOU AND I LAY MY LIFE BEFORE YOU OH LORD.'' THIS IS BEAUTIFUL. HOW COULD WILLIAM RUHLMANN OF ALL MUSIC GUIDE POSSIBLY THINK SHE WAS SINGING OF AN ''IDEALIZED BOYFRIEND''? HELLO-DID YOU LISTEN TO THE CD MR. RULMANN?AND SHE SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE AMY GRANT. I LOVE THE WORK OF BOTH ARTISTS. JACI IS DEFINITELY AN ORIGINAL WITH A HEART FOR THE ONE WHO HAS BLESSED HER TO SING PRAISES TO HIS NAME!!!!!
