KLIATT - KLIATT Review
Twenty glamorous designs are sure to tempt bead workers of all abilities. Crystals are the favorite elements of many jewelry designers, and the authors describe the history of crystals, Herkimer diamonds, and carved cabochons. The glamorous designs combine a wide variety of techniques and the latest in crystal colors and shapes. The book is divided into three basic sections: Classic Designs, Special Occasion, and Fashion Forward. Some of the projects are: a multi-strand necklace, a bracelet featuring Herkimer diamonds, a multi-strand bracelet that resembles a tapestry, a wire necklace creation featuring opalescent crystals, amethyst and crystal dangling earrings, Swarovski crystals in a circular pattern bracelet, and bicone crystals in a cluster. Gorgeous color photos showcase the beauty of each project. Each project also includes detailed instructions, an itemized list of necessary materials, and an enlarged drawing of unique bead arrangements. The Techniques and Findings section provides information about knots, stitches and stringing techniques. Entertaining quotes, anecdotes and the images of crystals throughout history offer additional information. Blessing and Hogsett are directors for Beadwork and Stringing magazines. This stunning book is elegant beading at its best! Age Range: Ages 12 to adult. REVIEWER: Shirley Reis (Vol. 42, No. 1)
School Library Journal

These three titles have lots of ideas for making lovely jewelry pieces. Aristides, a London fashion jewelry designer, provides the greatest selection of materials, including beads of semiprecious stones, pearls, glass, and other materials. Her well-illustrated introductory section on bead types and jewelry components is excellent.

The books by Aimone (The Beaded Home) and Blessing and Hogsett (Stringing Style) concentrate on two of these types, charms and crystals. Aimone's charms are extremely creative, some involving found objects fashioned into charms for the project. Blessing and Hogsett's projects include beadwork stitching and interesting crystal lore. The projects in all three books are sophisticated and certain to appeal to users of public library craft collections.
