Excellent resource for a new classic model

This is a well produced guide to building and accurizing Polar Light's styrene model of the Lost in Space Jupiter 2. No model existed of this ship until recently and to have both the model and a guide for building it is fantastic. The book gives concise directions on building several variations of the ship, and includes diagrams that allow you to scratch-build details that were left out of the model. There are enough photos in the book to guide anyone through the construction and painting of this kit. My model is hanging above my desk at work and the CultTVman book was open every step of the way!

I wish I'd had this 30 years ago!

When Lost in Space was on tv, I wanted a model of the Jupiter 2 so bad I wrote Monogram and begged. Well, it took 30 years for that letter's ghost to inspire the people at Polar Lights to put out that model. While it's a wonderful kit, it has a few shortcuts and inaccuracies that can be improved by the average modeler who cares. This book goes in depth with experienced modelers, who show you how to use the PL kit to create a perfect replica, inside and out, of everyone's favorite space Winnebago. It's full of detailed photos and drawings, and clear text, written by people who know what they're doing. It includes aftermarket sources for lighting kits and accurate replacement parts. I've been holding off building the model until I had everything I need to do it right, and now here it is in one volume!

One of the best 'How To' Model building guides around

I was bowled over by the wealth of information gathered in this book directed towards putting together the Polar lights Jupiter II model. This book was written by modelers for modelers and it is shown superbly throughout every page. Being a novice in the model building hobby I found this guide to be an extremely valuble resource in all aspects of building and lighting the Jupiter II...with many of the techniques applicable to other Sci-Fi model kits. This is a must for every modelers bookshelf.

    Instant Classic!!

I can easily second everything said by the other folks about this book. It is remarkable reference for a long awaited model kit. Polar Lights Jupiter II is shown constructed by four master modelers, each with a different eye for how the kit can be improved by showing a variety of valuable tips and techniques. Dads, you have to get this book for your sons...or sons, get this book for your Dads. Either way. This book occupies a proud place on my bookshelf next to my most cherished sci-fi and modeling references. Steve Iverson's book has the spirit of the fan-based model manuals of my youth, but with a totally professional finish. It is a modern classic and should not be missed by anyone who has nostalgia for Lost In Space and it's elegant space ship Jupiter II.

Everything You've Always Needed to Know About the Jupiter II

In 1965, a science-fiction television show premiered on CBS-TV. This show -- 'Lost in Space' was a first for it's time, and featured some of the coolest (at least as far as a twelve-years old boy was concerned) equipment ever seen on TV. One of the neatest things on the show was the spaceship -- a two-level saucer called the 'Jupiter II'. Although models from the show were made, there was never an affordable, styrene plastic kit of the Jupiter II, until the Polar Lights company issued a kit in 1997. CultTVMan, aka Steve Iverson, runs a superb science-fiction model bulletin board on the Internet and one of the things that many people talk about is the Jupiter II. Steve gathered together some of the finest work done by 'Lost in Space' fans and Jupiter II model builders and put them in this superb book. Packed with hints, tips, and glorious color photos, the Ultimate Modeling Guide is for everyone -- from the novice to the master modeler. The book is professionally done and rivals similar books put out by the folks at Kalmbach publishing, who issue the superb 'Fine Scale Modeler' magazine. It is also thankfully devoid of my main bugaboo for fan-published works: gross spelling errors! So for a first-class guide to a first class model, pick up CultTVMan's Ultimate Modeling Guide to the Jupiter II. You won't be sorry!

    Absolutely unique, absolutely fantastic

This is a great how-to manual on building Polar Light's Jupiter 2 model kit. Lots of color pictures, concise and clear step-by-step descriptions highlight the Ultimate Modeling Guide. There is nothing else on the market on this subject with as much depth or detail. If you are interested in model making, Lost in Space, pop culture or TV icons, then this is a must have book.
