Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Lush, larger-than-life photographs are just the icing on the cupcake that is this delightful contribution to the canon of confectionary cookbooks. Klivans' recipes range from cute Lemon Poppy Seed Butterfly Cupcakes to clever Chocolate-Covered Brownie Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes, which are baked in an ice-cream cone. When tested, the bakery-worthy Sticky Fig Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Glaze looked just like the photograph and the flavor was excellent; fragrant lemon zest, crunchy fig seeds and the sticky syrup glaze (from the result of an unusually slow baking technique) reveal a carefully developed recipe. Unlike several other cupcake books, Klivans' recipes are easy to follow and produce excellent results. Succinct and useful, the first chapter covers the basics: supplies, ingredients and mixing techniques. Other little details, like chapter introductions designed to look like cupcakes, the pastel Fifties color scheme and the use of vintage fabrics in the photographs, make the book a pleasure to browse. -Publishers Weekly

I love this cupcake book. I am not much of a baker, but this makes it easy to create something sweet and yummy for your family... without all the stress. It truly is easy and does not call for those hard to find/one use ingredients. I think it is great for those getting started in baking, like me.

Almost no pictures. I prefer my cookbooks like this to have pictures of each cupcake. So disapointed!

I disagree with the reader who didn't have much success. I have excellent, consistent results. I have 8 cupcake books, but this one is my 'bible'. I go back to it all the time, the recipes are great + look beautiful.

I found the recipes to be simple & easy to follow. My 11yr old daughter loves to help me when I use this book. She even made them by herself once. Light & fluffy results, recipes only takes a few ingredients. The Yellow Cupcake batter w/the springtime almond flavored frosting in the back of the book recipe has become super popular, I just made it my own w/an add-in and now every adult asks for it on their birthday! Thanks!

All I can say is this is a great book to have if you want to make cupcakes :-)

The pictures are pretty, and get you in the mood to bake cupcakes. But when you actually start mixing? The recipes are less than fabulous. The amount of frosting and cupcake batter is uneven...prepare to do math. Once you get past that, you are presented with goopy cupcakes and frosting.

I was a little aprehensive when I read the reviews about the print size. I got it anyay because I love to bake. Thank goodness for the nook link on my laptop. I can see it very well. Wonderful recipes.

I already know how to bake cupcakes, just needed imagination from Elinor Klivans recipes. Her introduction was very inspiring. She makes baking fun and the end results are wonderful cupcakes. My office can atest to that. Her frosting are also very good.

There are some intriguing recipes here, but I found the format a bit odd. Rather than having the ingredients listed first, the recipes go directly into the preparation instructions followed by the ingredients at the end. I find this to be a bit of a bother and somewhat cumbersome. Why not follow standard recipe format? It would be much easier.

The book might be great but I will never know. The print is tiny and all that adjusts on the font on the Nook Tablet is the section names not the actual book. Granted it was only 1.99 but it was a waste of money, The book is useless to me because I cannot read it.
