Writers Digest 21st Annual Self-Published Book Awards - Judge N/A
I loved the premise of this heroine and her back story. It simply pulled me in and held on tight. The character is smart, interesting, brave, highly relateable, and humorous. Add to that some hilarious action scenes, a well crafted plot, sharp dialogue, and nearly flawless writing and that makes this novel one of my top picks. This book should be picked up and savored!

Kirkus Review - Anon. N/A
Brave and determined, humorous despite it all, Lauren [Beck] digs for the truth even when she gets locked up. She’s tough-minded, self-reliant, with an eye for a good-looking man and thirst for a good drink. Not a shred of self-pity; no pink ribbons. But Lauren’s not hard-boiled, either. She loved the motherly Corinne and mourns her loss...An enjoyable investigation with an admirable, down-to-earth heroine.
Cover - Nancy Winter
Lauren Beck is a welcome addition to the female investigator circuit, and readers of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum and Sue Grafton’s Kelsey Milhorne series will love her – she is funny, smart, creative and thoughtful. As both a cancer survivor and a prosecutor involved in law enforcement, I already love Beck’s straightforward, no-nonsense, funny strong voice. Nancy Beam Winter, Prosecutor and former Asst. District Attorney

“…readers will be surprised when the villain is revealed. Strong and feisty, Lauren also displays a tender side that is sweetly sentimental. Her fight to reclaim her life is filled with suspense, and the novel is a gripping page-turner.
Cover - Ken Zamkoff, M.D.
"...a feisty protagonist, authentic medicine, and a crime ripped right from the headlines."
Kathleen Barrett
“…a strong-minded, intelligent, and gutsy heroine with the enlightened life-focus of someone who has narrowly escaped death. I am already hooked on Lauren Beck and cannot wait for the next installment.
Kathleen Anne Barrett, Pres. DV Sisters in Crime and author of the Milwaukee Mystery Series

Meet the Author

Donna Huston Murray writes character-driven mystery and suspense novels from the perspective of a woman who doesn’t take herself too seriously. While male counterparts tackle plots with the brain and brawn of an NFL linebacker, Murray’s heroines use their own life experience and an instinctive understanding of human nature. An interviewer once remarked that he read a Murray mystery, “to find out how a woman thinks.” She wished him good luck with that.
In addition to the seven Ginger Barnes Main Line mysteries originally published by St. Martin's Press, Donna Huston Murray has written for MYSTERY SCENE MAGAZINE, READER'S DIGEST, ECHELON, and REDBOOK. Her work can also be found in the Edgar-award winning companion book, THE FINE ART OF MURDER, and the LETHAL LADIES I and II anthologies by Berkley. CURED (…but not out of danger) is her first novel of suspense.
Donna and her husband live in the Philadelphia area and have two adult children.

Lauren Beck is accused of her best friend's and landlady's murde

Lauren Beck is accused of her best friend's and landlady's murder. This suspense filled mystery is full of interesting characters, not the least of whom is Lauren Beck. It's also full of medical information, all of which is communicated in layman's terms and makes the story very, very believable. This is a new series by a published author. A fast read and impossible to put down. Don't miss this one!

Wonderful first novel in an intriguing new series

Lauren Beck, a young ex-cop newly hired as a special investigator for a large insurance company in Landis, Pennsylvania, has recently survived a major battle with cancer. After Beck helps a dear friend, Corinne, cope with the same illness, Corinne dies and Beck is accused of her murder. Beck finds herself the target of a vicious and deviously clever enemy who deprives her of her resources (including her home and all her money) in a way calculated to frame her for Corinne’s murder.
If you enjoy Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone, you will love Lauren Beck--a strong-minded, intelligent, and gutsy heroine with the enlightened life-focus of someone who has narrowly escaped death. Beck is a genuine and complex character with just enough humor and vulnerability to make her immediately likeable. This is an intriguing mystery with no drag in pace or suspense. Beck faces one obstacle after another, and just as one seems to be overcome, another takes its place. But she perseveres until she uncovers a crime so heinous that it shocks even her jaded sensibilities.
CURED is a wonderful start to a new series by Donna Huston Murray. I am already hooked on Lauren Beck and cannot wait for the next installment.
