Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sharon Salluzzo
While the babies who encounter this book may not know Curious George, their parents and caregivers undoubtedly do. Based on the character by Margret and H. A. Rey, Curious George is seen wrapping gifts and making cookies while the man in the yellow suit puts the star atop the Christmas tree. George hangs his stocking and falls asleep on the sofa. Santa appears with presents, and the next morning George is happy to see friends arrive. A short rhyming text accompanies the illustrations. Babies will appreciate the sparkle and shine and the range of textures in this Curious George "Touch-and-Feel Book." Among them are the smooth star, the velvety stocking, Santa's curly beard, and the corrugated sled. Illustrations are kept simple and appropriate for the intended age group. Each page offers much for further discussion between child and reader. This "Curious Baby Curious George" book is a satisfying introduction to Christmas. Reviewer: Sharon Salluzzo

Meet the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in numerous languages. And many, many Curious George books have followed.
