Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kristina Cassidy
Books are tactile experiences as much as a listening experience for babies, and this bright cloth book stimulates baby's senses while also entertaining. Curious George marches through each page, playing and eventually sleeping. The illustrations are bright and lively, accented by stripes on half the pages and dots on the others. The entire book unfolds into one long strip with several activities sprinkled throughout for a baby to enjoy. Brown ribbons run along both top and bottom for baby to grip and feel. One page features a plastic mirror for baby to view him or herself. One page has a crinkly material inside it that makes noise. The text on one side of the book proclaims that "You are a curious baby," while the other side encourages babies to play, make friends, play, and dream. This charming book is recommended for a home setting, as the mirror makes it difficult to wash the book thoroughly. Reviewer: Kristina Cassidy
Few books can match the tactile appeal of cloth books, and this super-soft Curious George carry-around is one of the best we have ever seen. This fold-out companion teaches toddlers one word at a time; education at a pace we can all envy.

Meet the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.
