Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The weather is hot and what could be nicer than a cold ice cream? When George hears "Jingle-jingle" he is curious and learns from the man in the yellow hat that it is an ice cream truck. Since George was eating lunch and had to finish it, he missed the truck; but his friend tells him that it will be making the rounds all summer long. After a few disappointments such as the pool being closed, the sprinklers not working, and no ice cubes for the lemonade, George finally hears the sound of the truck. While the man with the yellow hat goes to get some money, the truck passes by, but George is not to be deterred. What happens next is amusing and thankfully has a happy ending. The illustrations which are in the style of the originals by the Reys are full of things for kids to look at and discuss. An entertaining story about a very curious little monkey. Meet the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.
