Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Quite a few book characters have been appearing in movies, and Curious George is one of them. There isn't much to the story, just some statements and spots for kids to touch or feel. In the opening spread the reader meets George and touches his fuzzy belly, then it is the elephant's soft ear, an alligator's bumpy tail, and finally, his new friend's yellow hat. The closing page has a mylar mirror (better than many in books of this type) so kids can look at themselves because they are now George's new friend. In spite of the good quality of the mirror, the book is a slight offering. 2006, Houghton Mifflin, Ages 6 mo. to 2.

Meet the Author

H. A. and Margret Rey

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in numerous languages. And many, many Curious George books have followed.

    My Granddaughter loves Curious George!

Gabrielle loved the book even though it is very short. The tactile illustrations make it interactive as I am reading it. It helps little ones associate the descriptive words with the pictures that they can feel.
