Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer: Donald R. Frey, MD (Creighton University Medical Center)
Description: This book, written in the popular Lange series format, is intended as practical reference in the area of ongoing ambulatory care.
Purpose: The book seeks to provide rapid answers to ambulatory care questions for providers caring for patients in continuity settings. Unlike many other works which emphasize clinical ambulatory skills, often to the virtual exclusion of continuity principles, this work focuses on ongoing care as well as standard diagnosis and treatment.
Audience: Although written for practicing family physicians and providers, the book will also be quite useful to residents and students on ambulatory clerkships. The authors are distinguished family medicine academicians with years of teaching experience.
Features: The book focuses on diagnosis and ongoing management of problems commonly encountered in family practice offices. About a third of the book is devoted to standard adult medicine problems, with the rest focusing on children's care, geriatrics, and behavioral issues often neglected in other texts. The book is well illustrated, with diagrams and algorithms used efficiently and effectively throughout the book.
Assessment: This portable, 700 page paperback is an excellent reference for practitioners caring for patients in ongoing settings. Information is complete, yet readily accessible. Information is prioritized well, making it easy to locate information rapidly. It will be a cost-effective addition to the shelves of thousands of hardworking family doctors.
