Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Zehra Jaffery, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is a third edition of a concise resource for cardiac care.
Purpose: It is designed to serve as a quick reference for medical and paramedical staff involved in treating patients with cardiovascular diseases.
Audience: Doctors, nurses, technicians, and students are the intended audience.
Features: The book starts with basic topics such as the approach to patients with cardiac disease and lipid disorders. Other topics include acute coronary syndromes, congestive heart failure, conduction disorders, and congenital heart disease. Information is presented in the form of lists and tables for quick and easy reference. The sections on endocrinology and connective tissue disorders of the heart are well summarized. In the chapter on evaluation and treatment of the perioperative patient, the text and figure need to be updated to reflect the current American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association perioperative guidelines.
Assessment: This is useful as a quick reference, most suitable for physicians in training, medical students and midlevels dealing with cardiac patients.
