Purpose: It is intended as a single-source reference for practitioners. While comprehensive, it focuses on the essence of the diagnostic workup and the current treatment modalities.
Audience: The intended audience includes everyone in clinical practice who would benefit from a concise yet complete reference. Potentially this includes attending physicians, housestaff in training and students in many clinical disciplines.
Features: The book is organized by both organ systems and specific topics such as palliative care and pain management. Each chapter is divided into specific diagnoses with sections on general considerations, definition and pathogenesis, clinical findings and differential diagnoses. There are extensive tables, figures and recent literature bibliographies. The photographs are full color and very explanatory. Extremely helpful are the updates of the different published clinical guidelines and the exploration of current controversies such as prescription drug abuse and low-dose CT screening for lung cancer.
Assessment: The expanded sections are of tremendous value and give this book a significant advantage over others by being the most current.
