Editorial Reviews

Nael A. Al-Abdulla
This fifth edition is an excellent compilation of currently accepted therapies and management modalities of ocular diseases. The editors have succeeded in their aim of providing a concise but thorough summary of management and therapy for the busy clinician. In addition to utility, the concise and well-written format of this book makes it an excellent reference for both the resident-in-training and the practicing ophthalmologist. The number of diseases covered in this book is remarkable, as all the categories of systemic and local ocular diseases are covered, from the common such as sarcoidosis or allergic conjunctivitis to the rare such as Weill-Marchasani brachymorphia syndrome or baylisascaris neuroretinitis. Unexpectedly, the editors go beyond the scope of ordinary to include a summary of the etiology, incidence, diagnosis, prognosis, and course of the diseases, which for most ophthalmologists provides a useful reminder of the disease entity, especially when considering the rarer diseases. Perhaps the jewel of this book is the focus on ocular therapy. The editors appear to have gone to significant lengths to obtain contributions from 422 of the world's leading authorities on ocular diseases, and what a delight it is to read the experts' formulation on therapy and management. In addition, in a mere 68 pages, the authors have created a drug roster of almost every imaginable medication the ophthalmologist might consider using, including brand names, dosages, and preparations. The editors have created a resource that every ophthalmologist should keep in his or her clinic.
