From The CriticsReviewer: Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)
Description: This is an annually published book compiling the latest evidence-based primary care guidelines in the U.S. As guidelines are in a constant flux, this 2013 version highlights what is new in 2012 and 2013.
Purpose: The purpose is to list in one place all the relevant guidelines that a primary care practitioner should be aware of. The authors have done a masterful job in keeping this book current.
Audience: This is a highly useful book for every clinician engaged in primary care medicine.
Features: The book is formatted as tables and algorithms. The tables list all the recent guidelines published by the various governmental agencies, professional organizations, and other entities. It is divided into sections for disease screening, disease prevention, and disease management. It is pocket-sized, so it can be carried everywhere.
Assessment: This is a very useful, bare-bones format of guidelines, very inclusive with annotations highlighting some of the differences and specifics of the many current guidelines with references for further study if interested.
