Gr 7 Up—Readers will find loads of crocheted animals, people, seasonal creatures, and more in this delightful craft collection. Thompson opens by explaining that this book isn't intended for beginners. The crafter who pulls it off the shelf will need to know basic crochet stitches and understand what the abbreviations mean in a crochet pattern. Supplies for each project, including needles and yarn, are given in both the metric and U.S. system of measurement. Skill level is noted, as well as materials and tools, and suggested applications for the particular motif are listed. Each pattern is accompanied by clear, colorful photographs with several examples of the motif that can be created. The author suggests some inventive uses of the motifs, which may not be as practical as hats or scarves but are certainly creative: filling an aquarium with crotcheted fish, adding a weiner dog to a skirt for a fun take on the 1950s poodle skirt, or sewing slices of kiwi onto a tea towel. Though this is an additional purchase due to the limited audience, libraries serving patrons who are looking for unusual and fun designs to make out of yarn will find lots to keep them busy with this compendium.—Elizabeth Kahn, Patrick F. Cute Crochet World: A Little Dictionary of Crochet Critters, Folks, Food and More by Suzann Thompson is a fun crochet pattern book  that I just dove right into. I was instantly inspired to grab my hook and my yarn and get to crocheting. This book contains a wide variety of patterns and I think these projects make for nice embellishments, or even as little toys  for dollhouses and play kitchens. There's an introduction, stitch instructions, techniques, tips and all the usual good stuff here as well. The designer includes a section with ideas for using the motifs. The patterns are varied and include animals, foods, toys and more. The sections are "Food", "Growing Things", "Seasons", "Toys, Tools, Transportation" and "Home". I found the patterns are clearly written and easy to follow, the photos are vibrant and the book is nicely presented.  I whipped up a few things myself. I made a few stars, a little cherry blossom tree, which I can see as an embellishment for  a square or a blanket and I made a little heart as well. I recommend Cute Crochet World: A Little Dictionary of Crochet Critters, Folks, Food and More by Suzann Thompson if you are looking to crochet some fun embellishments and little toys. The patterns in this one are fun and creative. I'm very happy to have this pattern book in my collection! disclaimer: Special thanks to the folks over @ Sterling Publishing/Lark Crafts for my copy of Cute Crochet World: A Little Dictionary of  Crochet Critters, Folks, Food and More by Suzann Thompson. This review is my honest opinion.
