Overview

Hamsters belong to the rodent family. What do we know of rodents? Yes, mice and rats … the dirty and disease-spreading creatures are the first thoughts that come in mind. But then there’s the guinea pig, chinchillas, beavers, porcupines and squirrels to name a few and so we look at rodents differently and they become cute and adorable mammals suitable as pets.

Hamsters in fact are the most popular tiny pets in the world. There are many types of hamster breeds. The most common are the Syrian hamsters, the Dwarf hamsters and the Chinese hamsters. The most popular type of hamster that people like to keep for pets is the Dwarf hamsters.

Hamsters are actually very clean animals and a very easy pet to take care of. They need a large house with a dry and clean bed and enough space to run around and exercise or else they run a high risk of getting paralyzed. Hamsters can eat all kinds of foods, vegetables, seeds, worms and ready-made store-bought mixes but the food needs to be fresh and given to him at proper feeding schedules. Hamsters have very sharp teeth so they will need special handling until they are tame.

Caring for hamsters is another special kind of activity. This book will be a guide to help you get started with your new pet as you will learn:

1) To make housing for your new hamster
2) About hamster bites and gnawing
3) How to exercise your hamster
4) How to feed your hamster
5) About the life span of your hamster

Hamsters only live a short life, about 1 to 3 ½ years, which is real heartbreaking especially for children once they grow very attached to them. But, hamsters can be very good pets that can teach children about responsibility and the important things in life.
