Just like the other reviewer stated about the ipad version, there are digital errors in this book leaving ? in the ingredient lists of multiple recipes. I have contacted the author, the publisher, and Barnes & Noble without success over the last 3 weeks. The author refers the issue to her publisher. The publisher tells me that they cannot recreate the problem and to contact Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble has sent me messages that they will contact the publisher and their content team. I have sent them pictures of the problem. I asked to apply the purchase price of my ebook towards a physical copy and to pay the price difference and was turned down. They are recommending I try to re-download the book in 2-3 weeks. I own hundreds of Nook books. This is my last cookbook in digital format. Very unhappy customer!
A Must Read for all pie lover out there. This book was meant for the pie to be made and cooked for everyone in the family. ;)
This cookbook is for pie what cupcakes are to cake. It is arranged according to six different pie shapes: Cutie Pies (single-serving pies baked in a muffin tin), Flipsides (handheld turnovers, great for pie on the go), Piepops (pie lollipops!), Piejars (baked in small canning jars), Petit-5's (baked in a mini muffin tin), and full size pies. Many of the recipes are interchangeable with the different shapes and come in both sweet and savory flavors. If I'm going to put in the work to make pie, I'd rather just bake a full-size one, but I love the idea of the individual servings this cookbook promotes. I did try the Broccoli, Cheddar, and Mushroom Flipside pies. They turned out well and the recipe is one I will make again. It was like a savory turnover or calzone. I haven't tried the Piejar recipes yet but I do like the idea of baking individual pies in small canning jars. The Piepops were the biggest surprise in this cookbook. They are round bite-size turnover style pies baked with a lollipop stick inserted. They would be fun for kids or as unique appetizers at a casual gathering. Sweet recipes include Caramel-Pecan and Mango Raspberry Lemon Piepops, Strawberry Rhubarb Ginger Flipsides, Campfire S'Mores Petit-5's, Peach Ricotta Honey Piejars, and Peanut Butter and Jelly Pie, to name a few. Savory recipes include Three Cheese and Onion Cutie Pies; Salmon, Cream Cheese, and Dill Petit-5's; Egg, Potato, Cheese, and Bacon Flipsides; and Curry Veggie Piejars. There are 40 recipes in the cookbook including a variety of crusts. This is such a fun and unique cookbook that I think anyone who enjoys baking will enjoy. I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.
There are several books published on small portion desserts and even meals, but this is the only one I know of with just pies! And who doesn’t like pie! Being it is only pies, this is still a very versatile cookbook. There is a great variety of recipes, each category having savory and sweet. Many of the recipes give the option to bake full size or smaller size pies. There are cutie pies baked in standard muffin tins, Petit-5s bake in mini muffin tins, pie jars, hand held pies, pie pops (love this one!), and standard size pies. There is a special chapter with different crust recipes, measurements for all the pies, and how to make the perfect crust. Even after many years of baking I learned some new things here! This is a quality cookbook. Cover and pages are sturdy. The pictures are great and very tempting. Recipes are simple to read and follow. Ingredients are not complicated and the majority you will have on hand. I liked the heavy glossy pages that will hold up to many years of baking. In the past, everyone baked pies but not so much now. Most are store or bakery bought. This book is a goldmine of gifts, treats for your family or parties. I think many would be great for bake sales. Smaller portions especially in desserts make it a treat but no guilt for over indulging. These recipes will give you the opportunities to not only bake something yummy, but also to show you took the time to show you really care. It would be fun for the family to have an all pie day! Pies for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert! With this cookbook you could do it! I received this book free from Andrew McMell Publishing. I was not required to write a positive review. Cutie Pies is full of new ideas and recipes to create that astounding sweet or savory treat for any occasion. I gave one book as a birthday present (along with a dozen mini mason jars) and I keep one book for myself. The recipes are all num yummy.
Dani Cone owned a couple of coffee shops in Washington state, but with the economic down-turn around 2008, she realized she needed to offer more than just coffee to bring the customers in and keep them coming back. Luckily for her, she had very talented grandparents who loved to make delicious pies and tarts. Coming from that culinary vantage point led the author to create and perfect her own pies and that success led to her writing Cutie Pies: 40 Sweet, Savory, and Adorable Recipes, which offers all of us a fantastic opportunity to get in on the mini-pie baking movement. Cutie Pies offers suggestions for several different types of individual size pies. Cutie pies are baked in a muffin tin using any crust or topping of a standard size pie. Pies cooked in a mason jar, known as "PieJars", as well as turn-over style "Flipsides" hand pies top the popularity charts at her shops. Pie Pops, a circular two-layer pie with a lollipop stick baked inside can also be made without the stick as yummy Pie Buttons. There are also sections on mini muffin pies and full size pies and each recipe tells which versions you can make with it. There are also savory pies, like "Good Ol' Mac `n' Cheese" cutie pies! Mmmm! The Bountiful Berry Black-Bottom recipe came about when the author decided to go all out and use four types of berries along with a layer of dark chocolate underneath all that goodness. I was interested to learn that the Very Best Apple Pie and Potato Dill Cheese and Veggie Flipsides are her bestsellers -- together they would be the perfect meal! Dani Cone has shared some really wonderful ideas and recipes in Cutie Pies and I'll bet her grandma is sure proud of her, too!
I downloaded the Nook book to my iPad and found that many of the recipes have a question mark in place of the the actual numeric quantity by the recipe measurements. I tried emailing BN "customer service" to see if I could get a corrected download of the book. After explaining my problem in the email, I got an email back two days later with instructions on how to use the 6al content. I was told to archive the book and try again in 2 to 3 weeks. I complained and said why am I paying for a book I can't use? She said, that she could put in a credit and then I could rebuy the book again in two to three weeks if it's fixed by then. Really, BN? Some customer service! This is about my 6th Nook book and the first time I've had a problem. Not a happy customer. I hope they get this straightened out some day!
