Nothing Comes From Nothing
Blackjack is deceptive, in that it seems like a simple game, but it is most definitely NOT. Casinos have been effective in conning great numbers of otherwise smart people into believing the line that "if you can count to 21, you can play blackjack." That popular casino come-on has led many down the road to disaster.

No -- blackjack is a challenging game, much like the game of Bridge. If it weren't, casinos would be packed with wealthy, happy winners.

But I will make your job simple, by giving you the tools and the rules you need to win. I will make it as easy as possible for you to understand the ins and outs of blackjack, from a winner's perspective.

You hold in your hands the key to fun and profit.

The First Principles Of Winning at Blackjack
Do you want to know what the First Principle of Winning at Blackjack is? Be happy with your gains -- no matter how modest they might be. Never throw back your winnings.

The Second Principle of Winning at Blackjack is the flip side of the First: Know when it's one of those times when you should cut your losses and leave. If you keep your losses on any one occasion below what you usually win on average on any one trip to the casino, you won't wipe out the winnings you've earned in the majority of your trips to the casino.

Makes sense, right? Well, these principles might sound, on the surface, obvious to you -- perhaps even unnecessary to mention -- but they are obviously NOT. If these principles alone were that easy to implement, casinos would be loaded with winners.

What I'm talking about here is knowing when to leave. You need more than a vague recognition of this necessary skill, in order to put it into action at the casino. Many players say they understand this principle, but they then go out and either throw back any winnings they might have made, or they accrue huge losses, because they play too long.

In later chapters, you will acquire the necessary skills such that you will never again throw back your winnings, or leave a big loser.

This is NOT Your Father's Blackjack Game
There are many things you must know if you want to win at casino blackjack. First, you must realize that the game has changed since the father of modern Blackjack strategy, Edward O. Thorp, wrote his brilliant book Beat The Dealer in the early 1960s, and Lawrence Revere wrote his wonderful book Playing Blackjack As A Business in the early 1970s.

In fact, the complexion of the average casino has changed in just the past 10 years alone, and -- some of those I've met at my workshops say they have noticed this -- it is a bit harder to beat the house now. That is, playing the old way.

Don't worry. Blackjack The SMART Way will get you through the morass that is the modern casino environment.

Best most state-of-the-art and comprehensive blackjack book out there

Bought this the other day and I can't say enough about it. It's the kind of book that will last you a lifetime. It's encyclopedic. And it's got the information I've been looking for for years such as the incredible shuffle tracking methods and a way to identify the facedown cards at single and double deck tables. The card analysis methods are killer too. The chapter on variable dealer busting rates and how to handle that was truly eye-opening too. This is the first book I've read in years that has anything new to say. And it explains a lot of the questions I've had about the game. Everything rings true and makes sense. I knew for years, for example, that splitting 8s often seems to be a real stupid move. Now I know why. He even explains why splitting Aces can lead to disaster in some situations. It's clear this was written by a player and a guy who knows what he's talking about.
