Accessible yet sophisticated book that explains the growing problem of cyber bullying and offers good advice on how to deal with it.
Children's Literature - Greg M. RomaneckIn a technological age the issue of cyber bullying has steadily increased as a social issue for young people. In this chapter of the "Hot Topics" series, writer Hunter traces the evolution of this form of bullying while also placing it in the broader context of anti-social behavior. Hunter takes the time to describe the characteristics of various types of bullies while then placing these traits into an Internet context. Hunter also does an excellent job of describing the ways in which cyber bullying can affect victims, effective counter strategies, the disproportionate impact on young girls, and victims' rights. Readers of this informative book also are afforded an opportunity to look at case studies detailing the sometimes tragic effects of cyber bullying. In recent years the pernicious effects of cyber bullies have resulted in trauma, isolation, and even death for some victims. In an era when young people spend increasing amounts of time logged in and participating in various social media, cyber bullying becomes an even more critical subject. Therefore, Hunter's contribution to the topic in the form of this book is an excellent one. Reviewer: Greg M. Romaneck
