To save the woman he loves, he must push his gifts to the brink.

Halle Shifters, Book 2

Julian DuCharme, a rare Spirit Bear with legendary healing powers, is finally free from the threat of death, finally free to claim his mate-but she's not having it. While his Bear screams it's time to mate, the love of his life wants to date.

Holding his Bear in check while convincing her he's not out to control her won't be easy. She's stubborn and a closeted geek-in other words, perfect for him.

Cynthia "Cyn" Reyes, owner of Living Art Tattoos, thinks Julian is the hottest thing on two legs. That doesn't mean she's going to roll over for his masculine charm. She watched her mother flounder when her father passed away, and she's determined to never lose herself to someone else. Not even a man who would jump the moon for her, if she asked that of him.

When the women of Living Art are targeted by a killer, Julian doesn't think twice about pouring out his last drop of power to keep Cyn safe. But it's Cyn who'll give up everything-her independence, even her humanity-to keep a terrifying vision from coming true.

One of his death.

Warning: This novel contains explicit sex, graphic language, a tattooed heroine and the Bear who loves her. Maybe he'll finally convince her to tattoo him with "Property of Cyn".

A 'spirited' entry in Bell's bear shifter series

Yay, Julian finally. I have been looking forward to this bearshifter's story since reading the previous book, Bear Necessities. I just thought that the 'spirit bear' thing was so cool, the visions, the healing powers and the whole shamanic mystical aura surrounding him.

Even with all that - plus some first class hunkiness going on as well - Julian is going to have to work to get his mate to accept him. Cyn's human and wants to - gasp - date, before she'll let him get past first base much less let him mate her with his bite. But Julian is pretty hard to resist and with danger swirling around Cyn and her best friends, Cyn is going to do everything in her power to protect those she holds dear - and that comes to include Julian.

I really liked Cynful, and since Cyn keeps Julian out of the bedroom for a fair amount of the book, there is actually time to get to know both of the characters - including their geeky sides - before the steamy stuff commences. One of the things that I liked the best in the book is that Cyn gets her own 'spirit quest', and I liked when she is telling Julian about it later as well - the differences in their journeys really fit who they are as characters.

One thing that was okay for me since I've only read one of the Halle Puma books in addition to the other Halle shifter one - but that fans of the series will likely enjoy - is that all of the past leads get to gather together again for a pizza party (and there is some good news for one of the past starring pairs.)

So, I gobbled down this episode of 'bears in Halle' in one sitting and am looking forward to poor Ryan getting a shot at his hard to get mate, Glory, and also hoping that there are enough books in this series that a HEA is in the works for the still healing Chloe too (wonder if we'll see a new side of her when she's finally able to shift again.)

    Not Great

This book jumps around ALOT. Im not really sure what the story line is. This book almost seems like the second book in a series...but it is not as far as I know. I do not addive anyone to buy this book. It would just be a waste of your money.

    This Series Is A Keeper

Love, love, love Dana Marie Bell books. And this one is nice and long. I like that the females are more than strong enough to hold their own against their "alpha" mates. In Cynful, especially, the man is, more often than not, secure enough in himself and his powers that he's happy to step back and let his lady take the lead. I also love the humor. The way the friends and couples interact and play off each other can definately make you laugh out loud at times. Its got it all: mystery, danger, humor and romance.

    Good story

I love this series and enjoyed seeing characters from previous books. The storyline is interesting and consistent. There are different types of shifters who are mated, about to be mated or still working on it. Lots of romance, sex, mystery, humour and adventure. I can't wait for the next book.

I loved the first book in this series so much I immediately purchased the next two.  We met Cyn & Julian in the first book and knew that when they finally got together it would be something special.  It was indeed.  Cyn is a strong woman who needs someone who understands that and isn’t intimidated by it.  Julian is not physically the strongest bear in town but he has gifts that make him stronger than most realize.  He and Cyn complement each other in ways I hadn’t counted on.  And beside the romance and mystery there is great sex and laughter.

    Cynful

I absolutely loved the wit and banter of the characters in this series, and of course the way her characters dance and circle into their romances. So I was a little bit let down on this book, after looking forward to this part of the story set for a while the characters just weren't as vibrantly represented. The book was very enjoyable but not quite achieving the shine of her earlier works of the series.

    Good, not the usual Greay

Love the series, Halle Pumas up through Halle Shifters. I have read all authors books so,, it saddens me to be disappointed. My issue was the length of time Cyn and especially Glory spend playing hard to get. I was like Gheex, get over your issues and just talk to your mates. It was to the point of cruel. Im over Glory in bk 2. Not sure how I'll feel in bk3 which is her & Ryan. She pushed him to nearly feral which would have cost his life. By the end of the book I feel Glory doesnt deserve Ryan. He deserves better.

    highly recommended

Check it out. If you love a good laugh with your story, you will definitely get it. This may be the second story in the series, but it's also a good stand alone read. Enjoy the ride.

This is the second book in the Halle Shifters series by Dana Mar

This is the second book in the Halle Shifters series by Dana Marie Bell. I believe it is linked to the Halle Pumas series, which I have not read. In this book, the story from Bear Necessities continues. We knew that Julian DuCharme, nurse and good friend to Tabby was the mate to Cyn, Tabby's boss and mentor at the tattoo shop. But he could not claim her because "it wasn't time yet". Now that Julian feels ready, Cyn is dragging her heels.

The point of view switches between Julian and Cyn. While being in Cyn's head, we get a much better understanding of why she is dragging her feet about finishing the mating with Julian. Julian, on the other hand, shows us the more serious side to his personality. From Bear Necessities, I was really afraid he was just a big goof ball, but that is just one part of him. When tragedy strikes, Cyn starts demanding her mate change her. Apparently the changing of a Spirit Bear mate is much different then for the other shifters. I can understand why Cyn really wants her animal protector, with as many times as Julian ends up in near critical condition. The tables seem almost reversed for them, with Cyn being the protector and Julian being the nurturer.

The dialogue continues to be top notch and the plot had enough twists and turns to keep me entertained and guessing. This book wasn't as raunchy as the last, but the smexy scenes are well done and not over the top. I am giving this book 4 stars on Goodreads because with the cliffhanger, I abso-have to read the next one to find out what happens. I will be seriously looking to find the books in the Halle Puma series, because Ms. Bell has made me a fan.
