Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Lauri Berkenkamp
This board book, companion to Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants, playfully explores the nicknames fathers give their babies. The book begins with a spread of a human father and son playing on the floor, and moves on to the animal kingdom where fathers ranging from snow owls to snails interacting with their youngsters in their natural habitat. The author's rhyming couplets also offer bite-sized information about the featured animal's behavior or environment. For example, the spread of a raccoon and his kit shows them washing their food in a small pond. Similarly, the text of the inchworm spread says, "Daddy calls me Itty Bit, a teeny tiny measure." The text is paired with soft watercolor illustrations of babies and their fathers. This is an excellent choice for a read aloud and will likely become a bedtime favorite. Reviewer: Lauri Berkenkamp
