Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Katsh
This thoroughly researched and abundantly illustrated book tracks the Larkin family as they travel west to Oregon from their home in Indiana. The year is 1853-they are neither among the first nor the last overlanders to set out along the Oregon Trail. Their journal entries help the author tell an authentic and de-glamorized tale of pioneer life. Neither tragedies nor heroics predominate here, just a fascinatingly personal view of the daily reality for travelers on a Wagon Train west.
