Overview

Wouldn’t it be great if we were born with instruction manuals? Each one would be different based on what we needed to learn, but the basics would be the same: how to create healthy relationships, how to deal with sorrow and pain, how to reach our goals, and how to know what we want to do with our lives when we grow up. We would continue to receive our own unique life lessons, but we would have a manual to refer to when feeling overwhelmed or lost.

In this book, based on the popular Website DailyOM (dailyom.com), co-founder Madisyn Taylor seamlessly weaves together her award-winning inspirational thoughts with her achingly honest personal story, revealing the inspiration behind many of the DailyOM messages that touch millions of people every day. Learning to Live is the next best thing to a personal instruction manual: a guiding light to reassure us that we’re on the right path, and to help fix us when we feel broken.

    My daily enjoyment

This book was given to me after a close relative of mine passed away, rather unexpected. The grieving process is different for many, and always having been a spiritual person myself -- when something unexpected happens -- it shakes you, not matter how religous or spiritual you are. It is in times of uncertainty that makes you see what the most important things in life are. The Daily Om to me, is like my daily prayer. I enjoy reading a few passages every day at lunch time. It offers such insight into the world we live. It reminds us that we are all a part of nature, everything has a place and a purpose. We as humans tend to lose focus on ourselves, our family, and our connection to Mother Earth.

The Daily Om is a book that can provide you with answers as to "why" something is the way it is. It makes you realize that issues you face, are the same issues others face. It is a honest and genuine read. If you decide to order this book, I would encourage you to read it with an open mind. Some people tend to judge as they read. If you do this when you read the Daily Om, you will lose the benefit this book can bring to you -- a new appreciation for life.

    You've got to be kidding

For many years I have been a reader of The Daily Om website and the writings of Taylor. While they can be spot on and inspiring, beware what is behind the book. The atmosphere engendered by the online forum affiliated with this book is anything but inspirational, spiritual, good. It is like a beautiful door that when opened discloses a dark space, a vortex of negative energy, that is the absolute opposite of the inspirational articles presented by Taylor. Readers of this book should not be drawn farther than it's pages for inspiration. The book is the best of Daily OM. Stop at that.

    Spiritual guidance

This is the best book I have ever found to give me insight on how to listen to my inner voice. It gives me hope for the day and helps me feel good that the universe is on my side and I can heal and be the person I want to be.

Needed for those who want to be at one with themselves

I first heard about this book and Ms. Taylor's website by my Friday morning yoga instructor, who reads us passages of inspiration to begin our days following the conclusion of our class. At the time, I was trying become a more spiritual person, both in God and through inner peace with the aid of yoga. Our instructor suggested this book to aid me in allowing reflection on a slightly more consistant basis, and not just once a week in yoga. Not that once a week is bad, but a continual affirmation is what I needed at the time. Currently, I read two passages per week, one in the beginning of the work week in hopes to forward think my week, which really helps in starting a week positively, and the other at the end of the week to reflect on what has happened, be it a bad week, trying to be a friend and looking for words to someone else who needs help finding their way, or finding inner peace within myself. This is my first book for seeking inspiration, and I think it has helped tremendously. I feel this is a good book for a beginner hoping to find their way like I have.

    I Also Recommend:

More Great Inspiration from Daily Om

A natural continuation of the popular Daily Om website.

Taylor's ability to break down the processes necessary for growth and positive change is very helpful and thought inspiring. Her gentle approach also allows an easy glide into meditation or reflection..

The Daily Om website is diverse international multi-religious and multicultural community working to promote nurturing of mind, body and spirit, support personal growth, and present a broad range of ideas and philosophies.. There is a library, a music section and many topics are discussed in a lively manner.

We look forward to more books from Madisyn Taylor!
