Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee!' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life. For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.According to her mother, that's a good thing. But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return-the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death... because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill. The daimons have found her.

As far as prequels go, Daimon is very near perfect. Jennifer L. Armentrout has given readers a backstory that is not only action-packed, but offers some real insight into the mindset that Alex has towards the beginning of Half-Blood. Many short prequels leave the reader wanting more and Daimon certainly does that, but it also gives the reader a complete story; introducing a likable main character in Alex, then throwing heaps of bad on her. And I loved it. If you're even slightly interested in reading Armentrout's debut, Half-Blood, I suggest you check out Daimon first. It will whet your appetite for some serious mythological goodness, and have you eager for some more snarky Alex. Oh, and did I mention some truly BAMF-worthy fight scenes? Because they're there too.

This is a great book! There was rarely a dull moment! I seriously couldn't put it down, I stayed up half the night reading it! I love how the author pulled everything together perfectly for the next book; Halfblood. It did remind me a bit of Vampire Academy, but there are big differences! It was great even to the last page!

Really loved the story line. Character development good. The grammar and punctuation errors were a distraction.

Woo! Hoo! I found a new fave and I only read the Prequel! OMG.this book had my blood pumping, I think I should have my blood pressure checked! And then bam, you leave me at that? AND now I have to sit here and wait to see if I can get an ARC to fulfill my fix! To make it even worse, if I don't get an ARC, I have to wait until September for the release date? This series is going to seriously ROCK! Alexandra (also goes by Alex and Lexie.I love that BTW), is the type of heroine I absolutely love in a series. She isn't afraid to run but if she is caught up in a split second moment, the fighter in her comes out. I'm going to call her Lexie because I like that name. Anyways, Lexie is a Half-Blood (Demi-God). Half-Bloods are trained at a young age to protect Pure-Bloods from daimons, the freaky, scary, looking' creatures! Lexie and her mother have been on the run for the last 3 years, taking her away from the only life she has ever known to live in the real world. My predictions is that Lexie isn't just a Half-Blood, there is something special about her and that is why her mom has had her in hiding for so long. I guess we will have to see! PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME WAIT!!!

This novel will serve to make the reader more excited to read Half-Blood, the next novel in this series. The reader will meet Alex, the main character. Alex is of mixed heritage, she is both human and god-a half-blood. Her mother is murdered by Daimons, forcing Alex to run to a place and people she isn't sure will help her. Alex is a strong, determined main character who will endear herself to the reader very quickly. This novel is short, but it is meant to be a prequel. The reader will be taken into a fascinating world of gods and humans. The author makes the facts of the world very clear to the reader, he/she will not be confused. The novel is fast-paced and exciting. There are surprises and intriguing events throughout the novel. The short novel ends on a huge cliff-hanger! The reader will be looking forward to Half-Blood. This novel is terrific for young adult/teens who enjoy fantasy novels with plenty of action.

Daimon was a nice introduction to Alex and her life outside the Covenant. We find out she's living in the mortal world, how things have been for her and background information on the world she left. We also get the details of the events that lead her back to the Covenant in Half-Blood. FYI, I'm writing this review after having finished Half-Blood. While I enjoyed the extra details Daimon added to Alex's story, it isn't absolutely necessary to read it. However, it will really whet your appetite for the story - as it did for me. And it was nice to know a little more about things - the finer details - when reading Half-Blood. I immediately dove into Half-Blood upon finishing Daimon.

This prequel to the Covenant series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, introduces us to headstrong Alex, swoony Aiden, Alex's mom, and the world of Greek Mythology that these characters inhabit. In flashbacks, we see a young Alex stand up to her elders and her mom abandoning their world to protect her daughter. As a half blood (half demigod, half human) Alex is stronger than mere mortals, and that strength and her strong will, keep getting her into trouble in the mortal world. They live a life on the run, never staying in one place too long. Until the daimons, evil creatures driven to drink the blood of demigods,  find them, then all bets are off. This short prequel does a really good job of establishing the world and Alex's character, but it fell short of really engaging me. If I wasn't already a devoted JLA fan, I'm not sure I would have bothered reading the first book in the series. It isn't necessary to read this prequel to enjoy the series, but after you've read the first book, it might be good to go back and read the prequel to help understand how things got to be the way they are. In fact, I think if you read in that order, Book 1, Prequel, Book 2, then Daimon is actually a pretty good story. Plot The plot is somewhat lacking since the purpose of the prequel is to set up the series, which is why this isn't necessarily a compelling read. Even so, there were some surprises that set everything in motion for book 1, Half-Blood. World Building This is where Daimon really shines. Introducing us to modern-day Greek Gods, their hidden world, and the mortal world they sometimes interact with, sets the stage for the series really well. Characters We mostly get a look at Alex and her character, as well as the evil of the daimons. It's obvious from the first chapter that Alex is complex, unconventional, and completely unpredictable. We also get to see how much Alex's mom loves her and what she was willing to sacrifice for her daughter. Bottom Line As a prequel, it's not really necessary and not all that compelling. But if you read Half-Blood first, it fills in some blanks.

The prequel to the entire Covenant series, it tells the story of what exactly happened to Alex’s mother before Aiden finds her at the beginning of the first novel. To be honest, I read and enjoy romance more than any other major genre in novels. If it doesn’t have romance in it, I usually blah my way through the book. A fantasy novel is great, as long as the main character loves someone, doesn’t have to be in the main part of the story but it usually has to be there. This novel had none. If I remember right, there was a hint of a former crush of Alex’s before she left the Covenant, but other than that, nada. I do not count that date at the beginning of the story. The boy was weak and stupid. Also, and while I love JLArmentrout to pieces, honestly I thought the series could have taken or left this story. It didn’t exactly add much to the story except you got a peek into Alex’s relationship with her mother before it all fell apart. While that is important, it could have also been done in the main series with memories or stories told to Alex’s best friend Caleb, or something, you know? So I wasn’t impressed by this installment. I did only read this story after starting the series, so I guess that’s why I kept at it. So because I didn’t feel it added much to the overall series that needed to be there, but because I did like it, I’m going with 3.5 stars.
