From Barnes & Noble
Everyone's crazy about Daisy -- the adorable, spirited duckling who dives into all kinds of amusing adventures! Now, little ones can sing along with Daisy in this index-tab board book. Join Daisy on a delightful romp through the classic children's song "If You're Happy and You Know It." This sturdy board book is filled with fun sounds and actions that youngsters will love to imitate. And the boldly colored, pictorial index tabs are perfect for small fingers to flip to a favorite verse or illustration.

Youngsters can sing along with Daisy duck in two titles from Jane Simmons: Daisy Says "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" and Daisy Says "If You're Happy and You Know It." In both, adapted lyrics put the focus on animals. Tabbed pages tell readers where to find their favorite creatures, from Daisy herself to butterflies and frogs. (Mar.) Plenty of songs have been made into board books and now it is Daisy the duck's turn. She sings the familiar refrain for herself and other barnyard friends including a chick, mouse, bee, sheep and pig. It all closes with the same refrain but this time Daisy is ready to go off to sleep. Tabs on this board book let youngsters select the animals and song refrains in any sequence they wish. It affords an opportunity to learn animal sounds and to point and talk about animals and things in the pictures. A companion book is Daisy Says "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" 2002, Little Brown, $7.95. Ages 18 mo. to 4. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

PreS-These two board books, based on popular children's songs, feature the adorable duckling. In Mulberry Bush, children will naturally join in as Daisy bounces up and down, flaps her wings, hops like a rabbit, pounces like a cat, leaps like a frog, and finally goes to sleep when it's no longer "early in the morning," but time for bed. If You're Happy follows a similar format where children are asked to quack like a duck, squeak like a mouse, oink like a pig, and make other animal sounds. The song ends with the verse: "If you're happy and you know it, sleep like me," as Daisy snuggles up next to her mother and drifts off to dreamland. Both editions are manageable for small hands, yet large enough to use with groups. Strong side tabs show a picture of the animal featured on each spread/new verse. The lyrics are complemented by softly rendered artwork that makes Daisy an irresistible character.- Melinda Piehler, North Tonawanda Public Library, NY Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
