But the Great War is casting its long shadow over New Zealand. Daisy watches in growing fear as more and more of the men leave to fight in Europe, and the War strikes ever closer to the heart of her family.

"Daisy's War" opens five years after the end of "A Second Chance". The settings and many of the characters from the earlier books are revisited, while a new generation is introduced: that of Amy's grandchildren.

Meet the Author

I write historical fiction set in New Zealand, starting in the 1880s. My fifth novel takes the series to 1918. I'm fascinated by social history, particularly that of my own country.I live in a state of barely-controlled chaos; fortunately I share my life with an invariably calm and endlessly optimistic husband. I divide my time between an apartment in the city, in reach of good espresso, and a few acres in the country, where the rank grass in the orchard is kept under control by a small mob of sheep (and where we have our own espresso machine). When I'm not writing, reading, or engaged in mundane activities, I play the piano rather badly.

I cannot get enough of Shayne Parkinson. Absolutely love this series and I hope she continues to write more for us to enjoy. Thank you for creating these characters and allowing us to watch as they grow and develop. I highly recommend the entire series. You will not be able to put it down.

I have not read this book as of right now. I just ordered it; but if it is anything like the last four books about Amy and Lizzie; it will be
a hit. I haven't read anything in a long time that good. Thank you

I haven't read this book yet but I am so excited to find a new book by
this author. The first books I read when I purchased my Nook was the
series by Shayne Parkinson and I absolutely loved them. They were truly
well written and I could not put them down. Once I started each book,
there was no sleeping, cooking, housework or anything else until I
finished the last page! I have been waiting for 2 years for her to write
a new book so I am glad she finally did. Keep up the good work!

    Loved #5

She did it again!! Daisy is a wonderful new character and she and Eddie have a special connection. If you have read Shayne's first four books and liked them then you'll love this one also. Hope it's not too long a wait for #6.

    Love this series!

I've read the whole series. Highly recommend. Great historical fiction series. Author does a wonderful job developing the characters. They stay with you When you put the book down. Can't wait for the next book.

well written, not what I'd usually read

good writing or I'd have quit reading- storytelling from a young child's point of view- kept thinking she was too perfect to be believable.

    A good book but a bit of a let-down

I had quite been looking forward to the next installment in this series but ended up feeling a bit let down. While the book is as well written as the others, and the story interesting, it did not tell me a lot about what was happening with the older generation of characters. The author's transition from the older generation to their children seemed a bit abrupt to me and left me with many questions. But as with all of Shayne Parkinson's book, it was a good read. I keep wondering when he will start charging for his e-books instead of offering them for free... he will have many buyers!

    Not like the others

I loved the other books. This one was pointless. Stopped reading half way through.

    Amazing

I love this entire series! I certainly he there is another installment. The character development throughout the entire series is like growing up with your family, good points and flaws,
    Lovable, normal folks.

    This book is OK

I read the first four books in this series and enjoyed each of them. This book felt like the author just wanted to finish the series.

    Not like the other three

Daisy's War is told from the perspective of Amys grandchildren. If you read the first three which were excellent, you wil probably be disappointed by this one. It is somewhat lacking in substance and interest. I got a little bored with it-too predictable, WAY too predictable!

    Great, absolutely marvelous.

I have been spellbound by these books for 3 months. I am disabled and Shayne Parkinsons writing ported me away from the pains of my disabilities. Thanks

I give 5 stars to the series. I just ordered this book and cannot wait to read it. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and I am so happy to see it continue. I feel a part of the lives of these characters and don't want to see it come to an end. I don't know if the author is a believer or not, but in these stories I see a beautiful picture of God's wonderful grace and mercy. Thank you to Shayne Parkinson for strengthening my faith as I read these books. I wholeheartedly recommend the series. You will get no rest while you are reading them, but it's definitely worth it! I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

You can't stop now, this is the final one.

I need more. I cried, laughed and arose early every morning to get my New Zealand fix and I read at night until my eyes were red and swollen. In other words, I couldn't put it down. I loved learning about farming but would loved to have had electricity in their homes before ending the trilogy.
To the author:Please go beyond this book with Amy falling in love with someone and Daisy not marrying her cousin.
Bring it up to at least the 50's.

Looking forward to the next book!

I enjoyed reading this series so much! I do agree with those who said it was hard to remember how people were related in this book. But it was still a good read. Looking forward to the next book.

    Another great boook!

The only element I found lack was a clear explanation of Daisy's relatives. I have read all five books and I had to truly recall how members of the family are connected. This fact would work against a stand alone book.

    a great series.

This is the last book in this series, and although it would be good all by itself, you'll understand a lot more about these families if you start with the first book.
