THIS IS BIG D, YES, I SAID BIG D !

Every city in the world has its own unique iconography. Dallas is no exception. And, of course, since Dallas is in Texas many residents think their landmarks, facades, artworks are the best. Speaking as a transplanted Texan we do have bragging rights. But, see for yourself in this beautiful volume by award winning photographer and artist Barry Doyle.

Dividing his book into a series of what he calls scapes with each section devoted to a particular theme readers are treated to panoramic pictorial views of Big D. We begin wish Cityscapes, which of course includes Dealey Plaza with a view of the grassy knoll, the Depository, and the JFK Memorial Plaza designed by architect Phillip Johnson and visited by millions.

Next we see Artscapes and the fabulous Nasher Sculpture Center, the Hart Window by Dale Chihuly at the Dallas Museum of Art, not to mention the eye-popping sculptures dotting Northpark Center.

After Zooscapes and Fairscapes with a profile of Big Tex Doyle concludes his volume with Floralscapes where we find the peace and beauty of the Dallas Arboretum.

Dallas Iconography is fitting tribute to a vital, energetic, ever growing city. Enjoy!

    - Gail Cooke
