Overview

Even without her Super Bowl 2004 "wardrobe malfunction" (a.k.a. Boobygate), Janet Jackson has proven to be one of pop music's most titillating performers -- from her coming-of-age breakout, Control, to 2001's oversexed All for You. And her eighth studio album, Damita Jo -- Jackson's middle name -- follows in the same libido-driven tradition. As the hip-hop-propelled title track surmises, Ms. Jackson is "sexy, quiet, shy, but down for a good time," and all those moods are reflected here. The disc captures Janet in love (the melodic "Spending Time with You"), in lust (the self-explanatory "Moist"), and enjoying leisure time at the club (the frenetic, Britney Spears–reminiscent "All Nite (Don't Stop)." Although many of the 37-year-old singer's graying fans might be longing for more substantive revelations from the diva than a sneak peak at her ample bosom, diehard fans won't be disappointed as Jackson moans, purrs, and sings barely above a seductive whisper on the album's 22 polished tracks. What the album lacks in hearty lyrical content, her signature production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis compensate for with a few age-appropriate tunes, including "R&B Junkie," which picks up where All for You's eponymous, Luther Vandross–sampled single left off by borrowing the beat of another old-school R&B jam, this time Evelyn Champagne King's disco classic "I'm in Love." To spice things up, hot producer-rapper Kanye West adds a welcome dose of new-school flavor with the Jay-Z–assisted "Strawberry Bounce" and the breezy "My Baby," Jackson's valentine to her fiancé, pint-sized producer Jermaine Dupri. With Damita Jo, Janet gives fans a glimpse into her everyday life, but her challenge for the next album is to reveal more and show less.

Janet's "Damita Jo" should be re-released. It is her best album. It is sad that the racist media blamed her for the 2004 incident, in which clearly Janet 's clothes were torn off by Timberlake.

Janet's latest album, Damita Jo, has been a huge hit in my opinion. Miss Janet begins the album with jazz/hypnotic tunes and soft spoken word while running throughout the album Janet gives brief intermissions between her songs just to give her listeners a taste of what is to come on the next song. This album is highly sexual but at the same time full of passion and romance. Every song on this album is worth listening to. Songs like the dance beat of "All Night (Don't Stop)" the highly sexual jump-rope style "Strawberry Bounce", "I Want You", the intense sensuality of "Warmth" and the finishing touch of "Just A Little While". This album is very different than her other albums, but Janet always brings something new and exciting to her fans, and this- to me- is the best one she's done. Two words to sum up Damita Jo: beautiful and sexy.

This cd is great, just like all of her others. When I heard the cd I was just happy because she has all these great beats and even if you don't like the words the beats will keep you hooked. So i definately recommend this.

Unlike her last album, 'All For You', released in 2001, 'Damita Jo' is one of the most versatile albums ever, with 'love' as its main theme and exploring every sense of it. Janet is at her best, with songs produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Kanye West, Dallas Austin, Rockwilder, Babyface and BAG and Arnthor. Sure hits include the self-describing 'Damita Jo', 'Strawberry Bounce', 'Island Life', 'R&B Junkie' and the ballads 'Thinkin Bout My Ex' and 'Truly'. There are also the current singles 'Just A Little While' and 'I Want You' and the next single, 'All Nite (Don't Stop'. 'Damita Jo' surely is the best choice of buy for every R&B and Urban fans.

Wow, this is such a great album! If you love Janet, you HAVE to get this album. It combines all of the previous sounds she's ever had into one album, and even brings in new styles. The songs are great, like the Hip-Hop injected "Strawberry Bounce", the rock oriented "Sexhibition" and "Just A Little While", songs that kick back to classic R&B including "I Want You" and "R&B Junkie", and beautiful new ballads like "Spending Time With You" and "Truly". This time around, Janet not only works with Jam & Lewis, but branches out to other great songwriters like Cathy Dennis and Scott Storch (the lively "Island Life"), Kayne West ("My Baby" and the current hit "I Want You"), TLC songwriter Dallas Austin (the rock driven "Sexhibition" and the hit "Just A Little While"), Babyface (the instant classic "Thinkin' Bout My Ex"), and the swedish team Bagge and Birgisson (the catchy and bouncy dancefloor anthem "SloLove"). This is a classic Janet album, and not one song is a filler. I'm sure that anyone can grow to love, as it is a mix of so many different sounds, so make sure you pick it up today!

Damita Jo is an awsome album about love. Throughout the 22 tracks you can feel the love from Janet which is a great feeling. There's a little bit of everything on this album from hard hitting dance tracks to sweet ballads to mixing it up brining it back to the '80s... For all the hardcore Jackson fans there is a different flavor on this album as Janet worked with new producers (Dallas Austin, Kanye West) but still manages to keep her flow... This album should be on everyone's MUST HAVE lists and definately worth the wait. "Relax, it's just sex" MYM

Janet is #1 and she seems to prove it to us everytime she comes out. The cd is the best sensual, romatic, and passionate cd I have ever heard.

I really think this is a good album. If you’re expecting all the songs to be total dance tunes, then you will be a little disappointed. The album has a very good mixture. I've read critiques that have implied that the album is full of lurid sexual lyrics but I totally disagree. If you've heard and liked “The Velvet Rope” and “All For You”, then you should not be shocked. I highly recommend this album.

Totally loving this album. I heard the entire album recently and I love practically every song (especially #15). Slow songs (heart warming) and fun songs(get up and dance). All in all she did it again and I love this album! A great buy.

This album is another creation by a person in this world who shares herself in the music. Not only is she an incredible dancer and entertainer, she really does have one of the better voices in the industry. People try and downplay her because she is soft-spoken and a Jackson, but if they would get over the prejudices and just look at her as an individual sharing the planet with them and then listen to her music I believe they would see how much effort she really puts into everything and how her music really is a positive thing! She is also an incredible humanitarian. She doesn't talk about all of the causes she supports and helps finance, but lets just say she isn't selfish!

Janet's latest cd, DAMITA JO, is a refreshing blend of sensuous lyrics and infectious melodies. She has stepped away from the Janet we have become accustomed to over the years. Ms. Jackson is more confident, intriguing and passionate in this album. This is definately not an album for the sexually challenged or sensually meek!

Janet has done it again, another extrordinary album that lets us into her world of what she is going through at the present moment. this time around its all about LOVE. The beats & romantic ballads on the album are exceptional & of course Janet lets us into her sensual side with such tracks as "Warmth" & " Moist"

In keeping up with her long line of number one hit albums, Damita Jo knocked me out! It's funky, upbeat and hot. The dance numbers make me wanna get up and party, the ballads make me wanna sing along and the (baby makin' songs), well, you know. Miss Jackson does it again!!

Excelent!!The best Janet's album since "The Velvet Rope". New R&B sounds, sexy lyrics, erotic ballads, a very exciting voice and a lot of sex! An explosive mix that makes you dance, laugh and have a good time. Janet has made it again: the best cd of the year. Who said "Superbowl" would stop her?! Listen to "Damita Jo" and discover the Real Janet, sexy, sensual, erotic and very strong. If you like Beyoncé, Alicia Keys or Usher, this is your album. The best of the best: All nite (Don't Stop);the worst,it doesn't includes the lyrics.
