Damon (The Protectors Series) #1 [NOOK Book]

Good Read!!

Nicole has a love for children and takes her job as a social worker very seriously. Having been through the system herself, she can relate to these kids in a way that no one else can. But her job becomes extremely dangerous when she makes a point to protect the vampire children against those that want them to make money from the sales of their vampire blood, which is also known as Crimson Rush.

Damon, a Vampire Warrior, has been sent to help train Nicole and the other social workers self defense to prepare for the dangers associated with Crimson Rush. He swore that he would never mate with a human but Nicole has his heart yearning for something more than he is willing to offer.

This book was extremely entertaining. I found myself sitting up until three in the morning just to finish it. Whether or not Teresa Gabelman has read the Twilight saga, I have no idea, but there were a couple of things that reminded me of it. Overall, this is a great book and a quick, fun read.

I really liked the book. Having grown up as a foster child myself I wish I had had someone as fierce as Nicole to watch out for me. I really liked her character along with Damon's well written although i am looking forward to seeing more books from Teresa. I am about to start on the second one and i am sure it will not disappoint. I have read several romance/vampire books lately and i really liked this one. Keep up the good work.

Damon is the first book that I have read from Teresa Gabelman and it was another book that came highly recommended to me. After reading I can totally understand why. Such a unique and interesting story. I loved it from the start. 




I found myself liking Nicole more than Damon and that is a rarity for me~because I normally drawn to the hero more than the heroine. lol  But Nicole was such a great character~funny, snarky, sweet, kind, caring, loving, smart, feisty, protective and a little bit kick~ass. I felt that I connected with her character more then Damon through out the story. I think that a big part of that was due to not really knowing a whole lot about Damon. Oh...no doubt...he was definitely sigh~worthy, but I needed him to open up a bit more. Definitely the strong~silent type!! lol  I also wish that he didn't deny his feelings for Nicole through most of the book. I wanted them to get their HEA so bad!! Especially Nicole, she had been through so much and was still such a compassionate character~I couldn't help liking her and rooting for her!! Damon's actions did make for a great ending and I'm hoping that I get to read more about them in Jared's book. Oh...Jared...he was so sweet and funny~just loved his character so much!! Looking forward to his book next and hoping also for more of Duncan and Sid.  Oh...I almost forgot about the HOT vampire sex~no biting by Damon unfortunately!! lol ;p




The story was such a unique one in the fact that there were children vampires. You usually don't see this in paranormal reads. I felt so bad for the one child vampire who was 6 years old and would forever have the body of a 6 year old, while his mind would continue to mature. Disturbing.




I didn't want this book to end. I was definitely left wanting more. This was another great read with great characters and was an awesome start to the series. I am certainly a HUGE fan of Teresa. She has such a wonderful ability to entertain you with her stories and characters.  Looking forward to more. Definitely recommend.

I immediately liked the main female character Nicole. She's very easy to like with her very quick and easy comebacks, no-nonsense attitude and her compassion. I love a strong female protagonist, and with Nicole, she easily fits the mould. It was with introduction of her character, that I knew that 'Damon' was going to be a book that would keep me hooked.

What I didn't quite realise, was just how hooked I would be. I read 'Damon' in just one sitting; it was that good. 'Damon' was so very easy to read, to devour almost, I wanted my fill, especially when I was introduced to the devastatingly gorgeous Damon himself. Yes, I officially have a new crush!

Damon, a vampire and a warrior, is so very beautiful, in so many ways. The way that the relationship develops with Nicole is very powerfully described; Teresa captures their feelings, their passion, their heart break so beautifully. I cried in two seperate places. Yes, admittedly, I'm a bit of a wuss, but their relationship did move me.

As mentioned earlier, 'Damon' was very easy to read. And I do think this is because of the flow and pace of the narartive as well as the strong characterisations. The dialogue is fresh, believable and at times very entertaining and amusing. The language isn't overly complicated or sophisticated, which is perfectly appropriate for the genre. 'Damon' is a passionate read, with heart-felt emotions and believable characters - applause for Teresa considering this is a paranormal romance.

There were several typos, and as a teacher and a beta reader, this does somewhat frustrate me; however, I was easily able to look past this as I was happy to allow myself to become absorbed into Damon and Nicole's world. Also, no doubt this blog will be thwart with errors too - ironic much!

At times, there were moments that were somewhat cliche, and very similar to other books of this genre. These moments made me wince slightly, yet I undertood why Teresa would include such ideas. To be honest, with the amount of books currently availabe in the genre, it's becoming increasingly difficult to have a completely original idea. Authors, just like you and I, are influenced by what we read. But again, I found that I was able to move past these lapses and enjoy the book at face valuable.

There were times, especially early on, that I would have considered rating 'Damon' 4 stars, which in Bex 'n' Books speak, means I really, truely enjoyed it and would most definitely recommend it. But in the end, I think that 'Damon' is most definitely worthy of 5 stars. Any book that can make me laugh out loud, cry - on more than one occasion - and make me both unbelievably cross and then later like a cheshire cat, surely has to mean that I loved it.

This is the first book of Teresa's that I've read. I'm so glad that I was lucky enough to win a copy of 'Damon'. It was a real unexpected treat.

Nicole lives in a world where humans and vampires co-exist. As someone who has been through the foster system themselves, Nicole now works as a social worker, helping other kids who are being fostered.

There are problems within the fostering system that are new though. People are draining vampires of their blood and selling it as an illegal drug called Crimson Rush, and now Nicole is getting herself into dangerous situations by randomly visiting families who are fostering vampire children and selling their blood. As she has already been attacked more than once, her boss Mitch has arranged for some vampire warriors to train Nicole and her colleagues in self-defence, and this is how Nicole meets Damon.

Damon is a warrior vampire. He’s tall, dark, and hansom, and he’s instantly attracted to Nicole. He feels the need to protect her, which is good because someone out there wants Nicole dead, and without his protection, they may just get their wish. Nicole is married to her job though, and getting her to take time off, or to not put herself in dangerous situations for her kids just isn’t going to happen, and Damon wonders whether his attraction for her just puts her in even more danger.

This book was pretty good. I found it a little awkward in the beginning, but this abated as the book got going. It reminded me a little of J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, with a vampire falling in love with a human, and the fact that Damon was some sort of warrior vampire protecting Nicole.

The idea of vampire children was an interesting one. Vampires couldn’t have children; these were human children that had been turned into vampires in order for drug users to harvest their blood. The children would forever remain at the age at which they had been turned, but would still mature emotionally. Imagine being in a six-year-olds body for eternity!

I did find the erotica to be the strongest part of the book rather than the other storylines, but overall it was an enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was sexy, humorous, and heartwarming. The characters were very interesting. Damon is a wonderfully strong, sizzling protector. I liked the strong human woman, Nicole and I adored Jared. It was very fast paced and I am excited to read the second book.

You often hear the term “Just another Vampire story”. Well Teresa Gabelman has provided readers with a fresh take on this sometimes assumed to be over-exposed genre.
I personally love Vampire tales, but due to the volume available, I am also quite picky in my choices.
In this new series, Vampires are known to the public as they “came out” two years prior and live among the human race. The Protectors are the elite warriors class of Vampires, tasked with the wellbeing and safety of not only their own, but humans too.
This first novel DAMON, sets the foundation for readers by introducing them to this dangerous new world and the fractions within who would exploit both Vampire and Humans alike, for monetary gain.
This story is full of humorous banter, dangerous liaisons and Vampires with attitude to spare.
It was quite ironic that even though I had already purchased my own copies of DAMON and JARED, I was fortunate to be invited to beta read this novel for Ms Gabelman. The end result was my impatience to read JARED and the knowledge that I had made a good choice when I purchased these books.
I hope Ms Gabelman doesn’t keep me waiting too long for book 3 and I dare any lover of the Vampire genre, not to enjoy this series!

Great story

This book did NOT remind me of freaking teen angst Twilight or have extremely poor editing. I, unfortunately, have read much WORSE use of the english language. I think this book is sweet, cute, and fresh. It's light reading that I am happy to have stumbled upon. Actually, it reminded me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which I LOVE! The big similarity is the club scene and the name of the club. I will be reading Jared's story very soon. I hope to see much more from this author!
It only lost a star because of the similarities and tiny goof up in editing. I totally recommend though, if you are tired of all of the "heavy" stories going around. Loved this!

I just finished reading Damon and it was great - I couldn't put

I just finished reading Damon and it was great - I couldn't put it down! I liked how it was between Damon and Nicole. A great beginning to a series. A good mix of humor, romance, mystery, and horror. I would recommend this book as a cuddle up for a cold evening with a warm blanket and fireplace. Lots of fresh ideas for the topic of vampires and humans. Can't wait to read Jared!

I was hooked in the first few pages!! As Pam (the best friend) gave her first of many rants, making her an instant favorite.

Teresa gave us a beautiful story-line that integrated character history into the story as opposed to a boring 2 chapters of background in the beginning. This style kept the story flowing and had me feeling as though I was receiving a special glimpse inside these endearing characters. 

The only downer I have for this book was the Ping-Pong POV at bounced from character to character, but even this was easy to ignore once captured by the story itself.

That leaves us with the ending which was my favorite kind a HEA or Happily Ever After………..
well for now at least.

I am giving a 4.5 and recommend reading Jared (book 2) ASAP!!!
