Dancing

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Rick Anderson
Elisa is a star in Italy, where her previous albums have sold in huge numbers, and Dancing is her U.S. debut. She certainly has a fine voice, a slightly dark and unusually timbered one that is perfectly suited to her big, emotional songs of longing and romantic wonder. Although the songs on Dancing can often seem rather shapeless with plodding tempos, they are pretty enough and nicely produced. "Broken" injects a little bit of energy into the proceedings along with a nice rhythmic changeup, and on "Life Goes On" she succeeds in morphing into an understated loveliness that works very well. With better material Elisa might be a world-class talent, as demonstrated by a few ...

    AMAZING!

The first time I heard Elisa I was blown away. I have been impressed with each additional song I hear of hers. Her talent is amazing. Her lyrics are as strong as her voice. She is truly a breath of fresh air. A talent we have been waiting for. Can't wait to hear more from her.

    Dancing- The best...

The best album I've bought in a very, very long time! Elisa has such a powerful voice, her music is everything from soothing to energetic and in this CD you'll experience both! Whether you're new to her music or are an all time fan, I assure you this album won't let you down as it adapts to whatever mood or environment you're in! My faves: Dancing, Rainbow, Waves, Life goes on.

    A reviewer

Elisa’s “Dancing” is the first US release for this Italian superstar. One listen and you’ll know why. I first heard her and saw her perform on a PBS special in December 2007 – she performed with Andrea Bocelli on what has become a DVD: Vivere Live in Tuscany. I was amazed at her voice, her performance and thought to myself: “Who is this? I’ve not heard of her.” After doing some research, I found out she was a #1 singer in Italy, and I started to research her catalog. It was a time of one “Wow!” moment after another – everything that I listened to was absolutely amazing. I started buying her releases, and in about 2 months I had accumulated everything out there by her, including a phenomenal live performance DVD/CD filmed in Milan, Italy in 2007. And now those of us in the U.S. will be privileged to share in this national treasure of Italy! Elisa’s voice goes from sweet tenderness on through the full spell of emotion – listen to the title track (made popular by the Fox TV show “So You Think You Can Dance”), to the emotive “The Waves” and “Rainbow” (the first single from the CD) then listen to the sweet, gentle song of love “Yashal” and the beautifully sung Leonard Cohen cover “Hallelujah”. Whenever she sings, whatever the style, it is always from her heart, from her soul – there is an honesty in her music that is incomparable. Elisa is a wholly refreshing discovery, and I encourage you to give her a listen, sit back and enjoy, and go to see her powerful performance live this Fall as she tours the U.S.

    Amazing artist, amazing album

Dancing builds on the love that Stateside audiences have been feeling for Elisa ever since the title track was featured on Fox-TV&#8217 s hit show So You Think You Can Dance in June, 2007. Immediately following Lacey Schwimmer and Kameron Bink&#8217 s breathtaking routine, &#8220 Dancing&#8221 shot into the Top 20 on iTunes (the only place it&#8217 s currently available), and has since amassed more than 75,000 paid downloads, still selling briskly at 600+ downloads per week. On YouTube, organic audience reaction to the song has also resulted in more than one million views of the SYTYCD clip, making it the all-time most-viewed dance from the show online. Fans of &#8220 Dancing&#8221 will feel in sync with the richly textured album&#8217 s other songs including &#8220 Rainbow,&#8221 an ethereal and hypnotic ballad that&#8217 s another lead track. Highlights also include the delicate yet passionately soaring album opener &#8220 The Waves,&#8221 the spare and aching &#8220 Broken,&#8221 the rock-flavored &#8220 Stranger&#8221 and Elisa&#8217 s gorgeous, almost elegiac take on Leonard Cohen&#8217 s &#8220 Hallelujah,&#8221 the album&#8217 s one cover. Throughout, her emotional intelligence and soulfully immediate &#8211 and intimate &#8211 lead vocals make for a spellbinding musical journey.
