Overview

Vampire hunter Anita Blake leaps into uncharted territory in the all-new novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton.

For most people, summer barbecues are nothing to be afraid of. But Anita isn’t exactly plain vanilla—and neither is her love life. So it takes a special kind of courage to attend a barbecue thrown by her friend Sergeant Zerbrowski. Walking into a backyard full of cops and their families with wereleopards Micah and Nathaniel both looking gorgeous on her arm won’t be easy, even with almost-four-year-old Matthew Vespucci to break the ice…

Anita is determined to have a good time with her family, just like everyone else. But it doesn’t take long for tensions to rise among the adults and kids. And Anita will learn that gossip and innuendo can be just as dangerous as anything the undead can throw at her…

Whew!! Almost back to the Anita that I fell in love with This is really more a short story that makes a timely statement, but not in your face Frankly I stopped reading LH because it felt like the latter books were just LH master bating and the over feminizing-of every male had gotten way overboard And then the half stories that simply did not add up and actually could have been really good side stories if LH wasn't so busy trying to write orgy's that were inserted for no  reason I really thought there was a story with her not only becoming a master of a vampire but also one that could walk during the day. Actually I just check in from time to time in the hopes that LH remembers the true Anita one that is still as tough as nails but more wiser

This novella was a complete joke. It is about nothing more than a picnic at a fellow officers home. Anita takes Micah and Nathaniel about a friends young son. Nothing even remotely interesting happens. Nathaniel gets recognized as a stripper causing a stir and we are reminded many times about how good looking Micah and Nathaniel are but also that Anita can't be as touchy feely with the men due to the other attendees of the cook out. The title comes from a bet that is made regarding dancing and whether Nathaniel can get other party members to dance. Nothing supernatural or action worthy takes place. Save your time and money.

This was a good read. It is different than what we are used to in the series. No sex, violence, vampires, or zombie raising. Just a typical bbq with the cops and their families. It is always good to see Micah and Nathanial. Plus we got to see the family man side of Zerbrowski. This was a good novelette addition to the series.

Needs to stop making everything a message about Poly relationships. More Zombies like the old days.

It was good. Was nice to not have all the sex. A little touchy feelly for Anita. I am a fan of earlier Anita books when she kicked but. Not had sex all the time. I wish she would develop more non sexual characters for her book. What happened to her zombie raising job? Never see her just doing that job. Please LKH develop more of Jean Claude and Richard, and not in bed. Love your Princess Meredith books. Please write another.

Anita and her two sweeties at a police family picnic. We have never seen her world from this perspective before. Some lessons on acceptance and what makes up happiness. I love Anita and all her guys and her complex love life but this is a little preachy and heavy handed. Lets get real, how many of us are going to have half a dozen true loves to explain to everyone? A nice problem if you can get it!

I have always been a big fan of LKH and the Anita Blake Series. This was a nice read, but so miss the story lines in her earlier books. Now the later books are more about all kinds of accepted relationships. I understand things evolve, but what about the power with Anita, Jean Claude and even Richard. Seems Jean Claude and Richard have taken a back seat. In earlier books JC was very much a main character. Just cant imagine the Master of the City taking a back seat. Dont get me wrong, LKH is still my favorite author and Anita my favorite series.

At least get to the content in a sample please! Not just copyright page. What's the point of that?

This is only about 51 eReader pages. There is none of the usual high energy chase or sex scenes. It is sweet look into the lives of Micah, Nathaniel and Anita. On the down side I think it is ridiculous to pay $2.99 for a book. At most the author/Barnes and Noble should be charging is $.99. I am disappointed that authors have not caught on to the damage they are doing to this industry as a whole. I think I would rather buy used paperbacks than put up with gouging.

Another great read my Laurell K Hamilton. I love the Anita Blake series and pretty much read anything to do with her. I loved this story but of course it was just too short. I know its a Novella but as always leaving me wanting for more. It was well written and had Anita and her two main squeezes along with the little Matthew this time. Great to get a different point of view to the prejudices she faces with all her partners. If you enjoy Anita then you will enjoy this as well.

Anita Blake can become an obsession! She and her crew are such lively and interesting characters that even a novella can bring you right back into their stories. Engaging, and lots of fun!
