Meet the Author
Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve spent her childhood on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation and now lives in Rapid City, South Dakota. She has written several novels with Native American characters, including Jimmy Yellow Hawk and High Elk's Treasure.
Ms.Sneve is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the South Dakota State University and was named 1975 Woman of Achievement by the National Federation of Press Women.
When not involved in the family antique business, Ms. Sneve works as a high school counselor and teaches English at Oglala Lakota College, Rapid City Extension.
Stephen Gammell has illustrated two Caldecott Honor Books, Where the Buffaloes Begin by Olaf Baker and The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant. He has also illustrated Air Mail to the Moon by Tom Birdseye, Thanksgiving Poems selected by Myra Cohn Livingston, and other distinguished titles. He and his wife Linda live in St. Paul, Minnesota.
