Shaeri Richards, the author of Dancing with Your Dragon, The Art of Loving Your Unlovable Self, has taken the complex process of personal transformation and simplified it by using beautiful language, metaphors and stories. I have devoured many personal transformation books, but I have never had a deep experience while doing it. Shaeri’s use of language intensifies the reading experience and aids the journey of self-awareness. The questions inserted throughout the book, register deep within your soul and you just have to pause and ponder. Lots of “ahh” moments. This book is not a lecture from an expert. Instead, it’s a shared journey of discovery with the author. Her personal stories, to illustrate the application of her ideas, make the lessons dance off the page. The exercises and practices are simple and useful and most important, effective. Each exercise inches you closer to loving yourself so you no longer sabotage your human journey. I am a huge fan of this book and encourage everyone reading this review to devour the pages and learn to Dance with Your Dragon.
The reader will find constructive information for repairing old traumas, healing old wounds, developing self respect, and not only reclaiming yourself — but maintaining yourself! There is a lot of information packed into this one book! One of my favorite quotes from Dancing With Your Dragon came early on as Shaeri Richards writes, “Intolerance is like picking at a pimple. We want the thing to go away, but picking only creates scars.” As someone who practices Zen I enjoyed this book and recommend Dancing With Your Dragon by Shaeri Richards.
