Overview

A core reference for residents and practitioners for over 35 years, Danforth's Obstetrics and Gynecology is now in its thoroughly revised Ninth Edition. To ensure complete, authoritative coverage of recent changes in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Scott has selected three distinguished new co-editors: Ronald S. Gibbs, MD, a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine and infectious diseases; Beth Karlan, MD, a gynecologic oncologist; and Arthur Haney, MD, a reproductive endocrinologist. Content has been reorganized to focus on the modern clinical practice of obstetrics and gynecology with maximum authority. This edition has more tables and algorithms that will speed access to critical information.

This book contains predominantly black-and-white illustrations, with some color illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

Julianne Newcomer
This seventh edition of Danforth's comprehensive text of general obstetrics and gynecology contains more than 50 chapters with more than 50 contributing authors. The last edition was published in 1990. The purpose is to cover the modern practice of obstetrics and gynecology as concisely and completely as possible with maximal authority. In general, the book accomplishes this goal. It serves as the only reasonable text that covers both obstetrics and gynecology. Although stated to be targeted for medical students and house officers as well as practicing physicians, this book serves more as a starting comprehensive text for the former two groups. The book started as a standard text and has been improved in this edition by the addition of more line illustrations, color plates, and new chapters. Illustrations in general are numerous and helpful. New chapters include obstetric anesthesia, ectopic pregnancy, care of the critically ill obstetric patient, assessment of fetal well-being, placenta previa and abruption, assisted reproductive technology, endometriosis, pelvic prolapse, endoscopic surgery, and medical ethics. The contributors are credible, and the references have been updated. This book remains a useful, comprehensive text that is well illustrated and as concise as possible given the scope of material included.

Booknews
**** A standard textbook for medical students, house officers, and practicing physicians, cited in Brandon-Hill. This edition is not only updated but completely revised, deleting or combining some chapters from the previous edition (1990) and adding several new chapters to keep pace with current developments. New chapters have been written on obstetric anesthesia, ectopic pregnancy, care of the critically ill obstetric patient, assessment of fetal well-being, placenta previa and abruptio, and assisted reproductive technologies. Additional new chapters cover the topics of endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, endoscopic surgery, and medical ethics. The color section has been expanded to 32 plates, and some 160 new line drawings have been added. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
