Danger in a Red Dress by Christina Dodd

Christina Dodd's latest novel is "Danger in a Red Dress" and it is the finale to not one, but two, of her series. This is the story of the adopted brother Gabriel from 'Lost Texas Hearts' who is also the last of the 'Fortune Hunters' brothers. This is Dodd at her best in romantic suspense with a story that keeps you reading to find out exactly how the 'good guys' will win.

Hannah enjoys her job as a nurse specializing in arthritic patients. She's also honest and a bit out-spoken, and when a angry heir dislikes her comments after her most recent patient left her a bonus in his will, he uses his influence to deprive her of her livelihood. So when a stfanger offers her a job taking care of his ill-tempered mother, Hannah is relieved. But it's not long before she's afraid...and then running for her life.

Gabe finally found all of his adopted sisters and recently he located the last piece of evidence to convince his last step-brother of his paternity. His sisters are wonderful and so are his other step-brothers so when the recently-found one asks a favor, Gabe is inclined to help even before telling him he's actually a relative. The job? To prove that the angel of innocence in the picture he's holding is actually and angel of death. So who will Gabe believe--his step-brother or his dream woman?

I knew Gabriel's story would have to be big...and it is. There's mystery, suspense, hot sexual tension, and plenty of action. Even knowing the identity of the 'bad guy' doesn't keep the reader from enjoying the chilling journey. The plot is smooth and unfurls beautifully and the characters are real enough to jump off the page. "Danger in a Red Dress" is headed directly for my keeper shelf to nestle with the other books from both series.

    A wonderful romantic suspense

Personal nurse Hannah Grey¿s last client died and his family accused her of unethical practices when they did not like the will though her share of $50,000 matched each of theirs. Her agency obtains work as a personal nurse to ailing Melinda Manly in remote coastal Maine.

Meanwhile Melinda¿s playboy son Carrick hires surveillance expert Gabriel Prescott to video his dying mom and her new companion as he insists he fears for his mom¿s life from associates of her late criminal spouse who stole and hid a fortune of money that everyone from dangerous felons to the law enforcement assumes she knows where the loot is. Gabriel hides from Carrick that they are half-brothers but accepts the job not realizing what the real danger is to him comes from what Hannah does to his heart.

This is a clever blending of the Prescott saga (see Lost Texas Hearts) and the Manly saga (see The Fortune Hunters) as Christina Dodd provides the audience with a strong romantic suspense that closes out two wonderful series for the price of one novel. The story line is fast-paced from even before Gabriel meets Hannah and takes off when they do meet. Fans will relish the Prescott-Manly merger.

Not one of Christina Dodd's better books

I have read better from Christina Dodd. I found it a little difficult to get into the book, the end was far better the the beginning and middle.

    Nice series wrap-up

This was a fun conclusion to the Fortune Hunter series, and a nice wrap-up to the Lost Texas Hearts one as well. I'd read the LTH series a few years ago, so not all the details are still hanging around my brain, but I did read the FHs all in the last few weeks and that was the one that was really brought together by this novel. Any of the series could be read on their own, but it becomes much more complete to have read them all--and in order. Though it's easy to get aggravated with Gabriel in this novel--he really does act rather boneheaded at times--at the same time Dodd does give fairly reasonable reasons for him to believe and do the things he does. Hannah definitely has more to overcome in this novel than the other three heroines, and she does so in style. If my to-read pile weren't out the roof, I'd re-read the Lost Texas series this summer as well--who am I kidding? It'll probably be more sooner than later. ;-)

Another Good Book for Christina Dodd

I really enjoyed reading this book. I was glad to see Gabriel Prescott from the "Lost Texas Heart Series" finally get his story told. Ms. Dodd comes through again with a very good story and characters.

    nice read

this follows the others in the series and is an enjoyable read. If you have read one then you already know the flow of the book. The book is predictable but i still enjoyed the chase that takes place. this one has more of a damsel in distress feature then the others.

    Good Story

If this is supposed to be a finale for two series, either the author has forgotten her own character or she took artistic license to change his career. In "Trouble in High Heels," Roberto Bartolini is a CEO of Bartolini's Import with slippery fingers. But in this latest book, he's a defense attorney. Just because he married to one, I doubt he would have wanted to change his career path. If one forgives the inconsistency between the series, the book was fun to read.

Not much about the dress, but still a good read.

The dress itself doesn't seem to make the book much, but the plat twists and jumps do keep it interesting.
