Overview

All Marianne Forster wants from her first holiday abroad is a little excitement— maybe even a fling in sunny, hot Morocco. She gets lucky on both counts when she meets Alan Waring, a mystery man who is more than happy to show a pretty tourist the sights. Disaster looms, however, when Mari leaves to return to England after a final night of passion in Alan's hotel room—and mistakenly departs on the airport bus with his bag, not hers. Alan, completely panicked, is revealed as a secret agent who has a very important SmartCard in that bag. He races after Mari and finds no trace of her—until he is informed that she has been kidnapped by a group of Algerians. Meanwhile, unaware that Alan is crossing the length and breadth of North Africa to find her, Mari is forced to survive the rigors of the deadly desert where she is held, not knowing who her captors are or whether she has any real chance of rescue.

Marianne Forster's vacation takes a dangerously erotic turn when Alan Waring rescues her from some Rabat protestors. After worldly 35-year-old Alan makes love with virginal 24-year-old Mari, he's so distracted that he accidentally takes her flight bag home to England. The bag he leaves behind contains a vital smart card. Terrorists wanting the smart card kidnap Mari and take her to Algeria, where she struggles to escape while Alan searches for her. Lucia (Run Among Thorns) pens some laughable prose ("She was pretty and she was afraid. Was she still afraid?... Was she still pretty?") and scants the real world details that should bolster a tale of international intrigue, but her solid romantic plotting mostly manages to carry the book. (June)

    This engaging desert romantic suspense is a fun tale

    Following the death of her father grieving twenty-four year old Englishwoman Marianne "Mari" Forster vacations in Rabat, Morocco so she can visit her paternal roots as her grandfather lived in the city. Nearby in the Sahara, thirtyish Alan Waring removes a smart card from a laptop held securely by a corpse. When worldly Alan and naively Mari meet, the attraction could light up the entire Atlantic coast of the country. After they make love, he leaves for home to deliver the smart card; only he grabs her bag instead of his.---------------

    Soon after he is in the air realizing his blunder, terrorists kidnap Mari. They rendition her taking her to Algeria as they seek the smart card. Meanwhile Alan has returned to North Africa seeking Mari and the card.-------------

    This engaging desert romantic suspense is a fun tale especially when the lead couple heat up Northern Africa. The story line is fast-paced when Mari and Alan couple, but slows down when they are apart even when she is held hostage. Thus fans who enjoy a fun contemporary romance with elements of intrigue will enjoy DANGEROUS LIES, but also need to understand the thriller elements never take charge nor anchor the plot, and in some ways feel more a detractor. Still the lead pair make for a fine African romance.------------
