Finn has no doubt
Investigating the discovery of the body, Sergeant Holly Rudd knows she’s an unwelcome presence in the close-knit community of Bamfield. But she doesn’t expect the residents to be spooked by the mere sight of her. What rattles Holly even more, though, is her overwhelming desire for diver and former Special Forces soldier Finn Carver.
Finn has no doubt that the corpse he found while diving was a victim of foul play just as there’s no doubt that he wants Holly. Now the two will have to come together to outwit a criminal who’s already gotten away with murder.

Contemporary, Suspense Bamfield, Vancouver Island, Canada Holly Rudd arrived in Bamfield to investigate a body found by divers with a knife sticking out of its chest. While investigating the death Holly quickly realizes that the small community has a lot of secrets that it has been hiding for years. One of the most disturbing secrets is Holly’s resemblance to a woman murdered three decades ago. Holly can dismiss her resemblance to the woman but what she can’t dismiss is her attraction to Finn Carver. Finn Carver is a former Special Forces soldier who also happens to be one of the divers that found the body that Holly is investigating. Finn knows the best thing for him to do while Holly is in town investigating the death is to stay away from her but that is a lot easier said than done with the attraction that is simmering between them. As Finn and Holly are thrown together by the investigation they are also finding out that they only can trust each other because someone is trying to make sure that the past stays buried no matter who they have to stop from uncovering that past. This is a good suspense story but some readers will find it easy to figure out the mysteries in the book. It is a sweet romance that would have benefitted from a more suspenseful storyline that kept readers more on the edge of their seats. While readers will be able figure the story out it is still a good story that keeps moving at a quick pace and will keep readers turning the page just to see what else happens in the book. The location descriptions are well written and readers will feel the story coming alive for them as they read this one. For readers that like some suspense in their romances, this is one to check out!
Set in the small coastal town of Bamfield, Vancouver Island, Canada, Dangerous Waters is a thrilling combination of mystery, suspense and romance that opens with the shocking murder of a young mother and her infant son in the woods just outside of town, and the disappearance of her little girl whose body was never found. The crime goes unsolved, becoming a cold case, until 30 years later when two divers with the Bamfield Marine Science Center find more than they bargained for when they discover a body with a knife embedded in its chest deep in the waters of Barkley Sound. Enter RCMP Sergeant Holly Rudd with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit who arrives in the remote, picturesque coastal community to investigate the homicide. As she gets to work trying to sort out the town's many secrets, she finds herself inexplicably attracted to the ruggedly handsome BMSC dive-master—formerly Canadian Special Forces and a person of interest in the crime she's investigating. But what unsettles Holly the most is the insistence of the townsfolk that she's a dead ringer for the woman who was murdered there three decades earlier. Dive-master Finn Carver, finds himself thrust in the middle of a murder investigation when he discovers a corpse submerged in a shipwreck 30 meters (nearly 100 feet) below sea level. Though his simmering attraction to Holly is difficult to ignore, he can't afford to want her, needing the cops far away from the people he cares about. But it isn’t long before they both give in to the consuming desire they share. And as the danger escalates, Finn and Holly must rely on each other to thwart the plans of a cold-blooded killer who’s intent on keeping the past buried. Honestly, I was somewhat surprised by the number of negative reviews about this book. Specifically, that the author had inserted "romance" into a thriller. I'm not sure what others expect when they read a book clearly categorized as romantic suspense, but I, for one, expect ... well, romance. And though there was plenty of sexual tension between Holly and Finn, I felt the emphasis of the story leaned more towards the mystery and suspense than on the actual romance. Drawing on her background in marine biology, the author describes both the land and sea in vivid detail creating a very realistic and foreboding setting for this story. With a well-developed, diabolical plot, a bit of steamy romance, and an interesting mix of captivating characters, Dangerous Waters is a well-crafted murder mystery full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.
