Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Ellen Welty
Celebrity biographies are always a winner with young teen readers. This one, part of a series called "Hot Celebrity Biographies," has quite a few great photos and is arranged chronologically from Dan Radcliffe's birth (just a year earlier than Harry Potter's arrival in J.K. Rowling's imagination) to the filming of the last Harry Potter movie. Each chapter has dates and other factual information and there are sidebars with additional information such as charitable contributions and personal statistics. The information that is sketchier is Radcliffe's reaction to his celebrity status and his comparative wealth. There are quotes or paraphrased quotes from sources such as "Good Morning, America" and other broadcast interviews, but the actual air dates of those interviews are not mentioned so readers would not be able to verify any of the information if they wanted to. Those shortcomings aside, added features include a nice timeline, a list of additional sources including web pages, a glossary and an index. This book makes a nice introduction to a young person whom young readers admire. Reviewer: Ellen Welty
