This is a fantastic young adult historical novel that reads like Mark Twain's Huck Finn, You can't go wrong with this tale of a young boy who stumbles onto the Underground Railroad but learns it is in fadt a bogus UR going the Wrong Way! A scam. It is up to young Daniel to make a difference in the lives of many a slave who he has come to regard as his friends. A warm tale indeed. Anyone with a heart will love this, Robert W. Walker s very first novel written while he was a high school student when just a boy himself. This book should have won the Newberry Award or the Mark Twain YA books award or something in that nature, but the publisher went under the same year it was published. Makes publicity for a title tough. I have read a lot of biographies of the author and they are on his website under his name.
