    Not worth your $$$

I put this down after the first 4 chapters. I just could not get into it. It all seemed so unrealistic (thrice widowed and the "curse" and all the side stories). Also, it was hard to follow the dialogue because it seemed like each character was trying to be wittier than the other to the point that I didn't even feel like following what was going on anymore. I skimmed over most of it. Finally, fed up with this I just skimmed to the last chapter and found out it was all supposed to have occured in ONE day. The book started out ridiculous and ended in an even more ridiculous manner. I really wish I could get my money back.

    not a favorite

The entire story happend in one day and was a bit difficult to read with all of the "extras"...I am sorry to say that I mostly skimmed through to the end. I didn't feel there was a whole lot of substance.

    An exciting romance

In 1802 American Jane Elliot leaves New York for the London upper crust swinging adventure scene. Her problems are her two sea captain brothers and her aristocratic British cousins are a flock of hawks watching her every move; one day in town and already she feels like a prisoner in a gilded cage. They want her to get married, but Jane came to England for fun not a husband.

She is attracted to the Duke of Edenham and he apparently reciprocates her regard. Courtesan matchmaker Sophia Dalby notices the Yank who is the daughter of a former friend and the Duke seems perfect for each other and obviously wants each other. Yet they dance apart especially after the visitor makes it clear she has no plans to get married while enjoying her first season. Sophia likes the challenge posed by the reluctant American but also stays alert as the Duke of Ruan is sniffing around her.

Though somewhat similar in tone, the latest Courtesan Chronicles (see The Courtesan's Wager, The Courtesan's Daughter and The Courtesan's Secret) once again, though a secondary player, Dalby steals the show in this well written amusing Regency romance. Fast-paced from the moment a desperate Jane tries to elude her handlers and never slowing down, fans will appreciate the shameless Dalby as she matches the lead couple up while also handling a personal matter.

    A Waste of Money

This has to be one of the most ridiculously long winded books I have ever read. I can't believe that someone published this novel. It jumps to many different points of views that detracts from the romance and the intrigue of the main character. I thought the leading heroine was insipid, idealistic, and idiotic. Her male counterpart only surpassed her by being pig headed and insistent. There was no depth to either character and the characterization was static and annoying to read. I've never been so disinterested in a book I've been reading in my life! I kept going through the book, hoping to find "the good part" or even a part where my interest was recaptured. The only part of the novel that held any worth was the description on the back cover- which was like a movie trailer, tooting things that sound good but did not match up whatsoever with the plot. Save yourself the $8 you would spend on this book and check into Lisa Kleypas.
