Overview

It's all fun and games … until someone falls in love.

Oliver Goswick, Viscount Rathburn, needs money—and soon. With time ticking away and his inheritance held hostage until he's properly wed, Rathburn's slim options point to a single solution: a faux engagement. In need of the perfect bride, he knows of only one candidate: his best friend's wallflower sister. The plan seems flawless, except for one problem … He can't help falling in love with her.

Poised, polished Emma Danvers knows nothing good can come of Rathburn's scheme. Spending the next two months engaged in a mock courtship is not what she'd imagined for her final season. Yet, charmed by his roguish ways and the inexplicable hammering he causes in her heart, she accepts his challenge.

For Emma, keeping the secret seemed easy when it was just a game … But as Rathburn begins to see past her reserved exterior to the passionate woman within, the risk of losing her heart becomes all too real.

A sweet, charming, delight of a read, Daring Miss Danvers was a wonderful historical romance. I absolutely loved this sweet book. It was a truly lovely read. Emma was a wonderful heroine. She was a kind-hearted, likable character that was strong willed in a quieter way. She could be a bit misguided at times, but only ever with good intentions. I thought she was a lovely character. Oliver was also great. When he wanted something, heaven help the person who got in his way. He was a very determined type of man. But, he was also a real sweetie. He was genuinely kind and utterly adorable. I thought he was perfect. The romance was lovely. Emma and Oliver were wonderful together. I liked that they didn't bother to deny their feelings, though they had some trouble communicating them. And the chemistry between them was hot. They were an absolutely perfect couple. The plot was fast-paced and I was hooked the entire way through. I really enjoyed this sweet story and the ending was lovely. Daring Miss Danvers was a delightful historical romance. I really loved this sweet charmer of a book. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to read. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Emma Danvers doesn't like breaking the rules. After all, she needs to make a good marriage and her artsy parents won't help her chances any, or so she initially believes.  But when her brother's best friend from Eton, Viscount Rathburn's father dies, she postpones her coming out to observe a year of mourning, because their families have grown close over the years.  Rathburn is his father's heir, but his grandmother refuses to release his inheritance until he is settled down, but only with a woman that she approves. She approves of Emma, so Emma agrees to help Rathburn out by pretending to become his betrothed. Rathburn has agreed to break the betrothal before the marriage if he receives  his inheritance. As the faux courtship continues the couple become the best of friends (unusual in an historical of this genre in which the couple is generally in continual conflict). As often happens, friendship grew to more, until each is secretely in love with the other, afraid to admit it for fear of being rejectred. Overall this is a fast read, but the plot is driven with sexual tension rather than action, espionage or adventure. That's not to say there is nothing of interest here. It's a well written story, and though the plot threads are rather frail at times, the secondary characters are often funny, witty and entertaining. Rathburn's grandmother is delightful and marionettes the hero/heroine throughout. The covers alone should have these books flying off the shelves.  Gorgeous! If you like romantic historicals, you will definately enjoy this! Book Bling gives this Avon romance 4 stars!

Sweet, charming, and delightful! Miss Lorret was a new author to me but after seeing that Lorraine Heath liked this book (I love her!) and reading DARING MISS DANVERS, I'll definitely check out this author's other books. This story had just the right amount of everything: beautiful writing, complex characters, a romance you can root for, sexy-sexy times, and a satisfying conclusion. I don't want to give anything away, but if you're looking for a new historical romance author, give this one a try. I bet you won't regret it!

Having not been too impressed with the prequel novella to this book, I took a chance anyway. And really liked it.  Oliver is a man in need of money. And though you might think Emma is in possession of such money, she is decidedly not. However, she is in possession of the respectability that will release his inheritance to him. And so, they concoct a scheme to have a fake engagement until his grandmother pronounces him respectable and releases his inheritance to him. Of course, this fake engagement turns real and Emma and Oliver see in each other a love that they've only just realized, even though they've known each other since childhood. It was sweet, quick read. And look forward to the rest of the trilogy.

My, oh, my, what a tangled web they weave. But what a delightful web it is. *grins* It seemed that everything about Emma was subtle and nondescript, but not to Oliver. Seeing her through his eyes made me see the woman hiding behind her “monochromatic” appearance. ~~~ “Your hair isn’t brown, but more of a mahogany, with the same luster of a newly polished handrail. And brown isn’t the correct color for your eyes either. They’re more like…like cups of chocolate on a rainy morning.” – Oliver Goswick (Kindle, Loc 111) ~~~ Oliver’s feelings for Emma seemed to be more than friendship from the beginning of the story. If she didn’t mean so much to him, I don’t think he would’ve suggested a fake engagement for anyone, least of all his grandmother. I suppose if they didn’t mean so much to each other, they 1)never would’ve agreed to this scheme, and 2)wouldn’t have worried so much about how their relationship would change if they admitted to what they felt for each other. But as they navigate the angles, corners and lines of their engagement, as fake becomes real, there’s no denying how much they love one another. There’s no denying that special link they share. There’s no denying how right the world is when they’re together. And the friendship they shared only made the love they had for one another that much stronger. This is a beautiful story that I enjoyed from beginning to end. It might revolve around one of the oldest romance tropes known to man, but Ms. Lorret’s spin on it makes it a delightful lesson in passion, friendship, and love. ***Received from Tasty Book Tours for an honest review***

While the plot of a false engagement becoming a real loved based marriage is a common one, the quirky and interesting characters make it an enjoyable story.

Emma and Oliver have known each other since childhood. Now he needs to find a way to get his inheritance, so he can finish repairs to his family home and finish building a hospital. The only way his grandmother will release the funds is if he is aligned with/engaged to a proper lady. There's only one lady she approves of, Emma. How could a fake courtship/engagement go wrong? With a seemingly accurate period basis, reality, events, this adds a nice flavor to the narrative and authenticity to the characters. Characters are typically sweet, caring, and interesting. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Its nothing special. But um...i guess ill start with when i was 3. My family had a lot of money and was happy. But tyen we kept getting robbed. So we started losing money. Eventually when i was 5 and my brother sam was 1 my dad left. And 3 years later my mother didnt have enough money to pay for everyone, so she threw us out. When we were out on the streets i took all of the heat so my brother didnt have to be beaten by the people. 2 years later my moms house was set on fire and her body was never found. Eventually my father heard what happened and came looking for us but by then i had scars on my back from the hourly beatings from the people that tried to steal our food and water. When i wad about 14 i went back to the streets and shot every person that tortured me. When i was 16 my father was killed by a demon. And when i was 17 my brother started hanging out with that demon. At 18 i was turned to a werewolf. And now im here. Through all of the pain i suffered. Im surprized i actually have feelings. Thats all im gonna talk about for now. ~Dean

Well a little to tell... growing up, growing pains were huge. I was NOT a good kid. Was kinda a jerk. Skipped school, hung out with gangs, etc. Family warned anymore of that off to military camp. As arrogant I was, I didn't believe them. Guess what? I should have believed them. I was shipped off to mil. Camp til I was 14 and busted out. Layed low in the woods, was attacked by the were and ended up here. Family died later on. Renamed myself Nemesis after the Greek god if balance, fate and REVENGE. Heh. Now you. Happy now??
