I really enjoyed this book from the start. Unlike the later books of Lucita, this one has her still trying to gain favor from her sire and she isn't the rogue assassin you see later. The only thing I didn't like was that I don't recall her using any of her powers in this, other than her wit and perception. I liked Anatole in this much more than his role in the Victorian Ages: novel The Madness of Priests and the later clan novel for the Malkaviens. In this, the madness hasn't touched him to the degree in MoP, and even worse in the Clan Novel. He and Lucita make a great pair. You also meet up again with Malichite a little and see what he's up to. I recommend this book to any the like's these characters and wants to see Anatole and Lucita a mere 10-15 years after their embrace.

The city of Constantinople is in ruins. Vampires from all clans seek easy prey or power during this time of chaos. Bishop Alfonzo is considered to be head of the city, but there is no true prince, though some are building power to assume the role soon. ........... Lucita is the young envoy of Clan Lasombra. With her is a strange monk called Anatole. Together, they must decide who best to become Prince of Constantinople and become indispensable to him, or die in the task. .... ***** 'LASOMBRA' is book five in an epic thirteen-part series of Dark Ages Clan Novels. Author David Niall Wilson did a splendid job in making this story come alive for me! Each character's dark traits are powerful and lethal. Wilson's talent drips vividly on every page of this dark fantasy. I can only hope the rest of this saga is even half as great. Highly recommended!
