Overview

From the uninhibited imagination of Christine Feehan comes a sensual adventure of her beloved Carpathians-one of undying passion, astonishing fantasy, and eternal love.

They are the Carpathians. For years, they have been persecuted by their enemies, and have struggled against all odds to preserve their species. Now, a new insidious plot has been devised-one that would slaughter Carpathian females and bring an end to all that the Carpathians have worked for.

Even with his own lifemate, Raven, and their daughter Savannah, in danger, Carpathian king Mikhail believes that all is not lost. Gathering all of his people together, he will forge a new bond of strength, joining their powers in a celebration that will bring light even in this dark time.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Christine Feehan, queen of paranormal fiction, marks her first Carpathian novel in hardcover with a first for the bestselling Dark series -- a Christmas celebration that brings all the major characters together. This makes Dark Celebration a great introduction for new readers and a treat for those who have followed the series intently. Just don't expect a holiday event full of merriment: Christine Feehan always does dark.

(For those just tuning in, Carpathians are an ancient, shapeshifting nonhuman species who read minds and hunt vampires. The males -- alpha to the core -- are intense and passionate, committing to one lifemate; without that mate, they lose their ability to see color and feel emotion, then finally become vampire.)

As the story opens, the Carpathians are in grave danger of extinction, not only from their enemies but also from the propensity of Carpathian women to have miscarriages. At Raven's suggestion, the Carpathians are gathering for their first community holiday event; but to her lifemate, Prince Mikhail, it presents an excellent opportunity for their enemies to strike. Feehan brings us up to date with familiar couples, Raven and Mikhail, Desari and Julian, Shea and Jacques. She introduces the early stages of a possible new love story between Skyler and Dimitri. Feehan adeptly shifts between danger and humor, cooking disasters and passionate sex, as the group fights vampires and a dark mage, their oldest enemy. The book concludes with a special section of Dark Desserts (chocolate, chocolate) sent in by Feehan fans across the country. A holiday treat indeed! Ginger Curwen
Publishers Weekly
The blood-drinking, mind-reading, shape-shifting Carpathian clan and their human friends gather for Christmas-and to stave off encroaching enemies-in bestseller Feehan's latest entry in her Dark series (after Dark Demon) and her first in hardcover. The guests hunt vampires, confront a dark mage and, most importantly, face the extinction of their species due to a mysteriously low birth rate and high infant mortality. Shea-once a human surgeon, now a Carpathian healer-studies the Carpathian's procreative problem even as she carries the child of her "lifemate" Jacques, whose brother, Prince Mikhail, also hopes for more children with his mate, Raven. The action suffers from the author's efforts to feature each of these couples and others, but the stage is set for future, more plot-driven books. A section of recipes by Feehan fans, "Dark Desserts," rounds out this sex- and magic-filled treat, which makes a good entry point for newcomers. (Sept.) Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

I’ve also been involved in the martial arts for years—I hold a third degree black belt, instruct in a Korean karate system, and have taught self-defense. I am happily married to a romantic man who often inspires me with his thoughtfulness. We have a yours, mine, and ours family, claiming eleven children as our own. I have always written books, forcing my ten sisters to read every word, and now my daughters read and help me edit my manuscripts. A Message from the Author

Dear Readers,
One of the most difficult things a writer does is cut out scenes we love. One such deleted scene is included here, especially for you. The scene showcases an ancient Carpathian ritual. I really wanted Dark Celebration to be about a way of life before the years had burdened the Carpathian species with so many troubles. I wanted the memories to be beautiful and bright as they remembered the ancient rituals and rediscovered ancient secrets crucial to the survival of their race. The men and women need one another to be complete. The men are shadowed with darker, powerful talents, but the women, in their own right, are just as powerful, made in the light to complement the men. Their gifts heal and change the world around them. Carpathians are a species of people who inhabit our world and try to blend in and live side by side with us. They have lived so differently for so many centuries that they have forgotten what it is like to live in a society of their people. By bringing them together again, they slowly come to understand what value there is in blending both old and new, how much they've gained -- and how much they've lost. This book is a book of hope and renewal. It was wonderful to write it even without all the difficulties of not having a hero and heroine and trying to find a way to transition chapters from couple to couple. It was really a great experience revisiting old friends and learning more of the secrets of the Carpathian people. I hope you enjoy the book and especially the wonderful recipes, the Dark Desserts, sent in by so many readers from around the world.

Warmest regards,
Christine Feehan

Now, here is the special deleted scene from Dark Celebration, an exclusive for Heart to Heart:

Barack stared out over the blackened ruins of the battlefield. The vampires had reduced a once beautiful land to smoke and ash. The trees wept poisonous tears that dripped and ran down twisted trunks. Brittle branches had sheared off leaving jagged stumps along the cracked and bleeding trunks. Below, on the ground stripped of all green, lay broken branches like fallen warriors. A lone woman walked barefoot in the middle of the massacre, her arms widespread, her head thrown back, looking up at the heavy, snow laced clouds. Her mass of long hair blew around her like a silken cape, caressing her shapely hips with every step she took. She wore a simple skirt that fluttered and a brief peasant top, yet she looked a queen as she moved through the barren land. Behind her, like a bright carpet of hope standing out starkly against the devastation, in each print of her foot, green grass and tiny sprouts pushed through the blackened soil. The wind carried the sound of her voice, soft and melodious, as her chant coaxed the ground to give up new life. She began to sway with the rhythm of her song, her feet following a centuries-old pattern known only to the women of her lineage. Her hands wove an intricate graceful design in the air and with every sweep the wind rustled through the wilted leaves and breathed life back into them. Barack held his breath as he watched Syndil perform the dance of healing over the scarred land, his heart keeping time to the music, his pulse thundering in his ears. She was beautiful. Ethereal. She was a legend come to life, moving with such grace and beauty through the utter devastation of the land that the contrast brought to light the struggle of life and death and good and evil. Syndil seemed oblivious to the ring of watchers, but Barack was acutely aware of them, of the awe on their faces, the respect and shock. There was such power in her feminine magic. The males of his species were warriors, dark and dangerous, calling down the storms, using the lightning, yet their women had such influence in harmonizing the universe. They were gathered as well, standing shoulder to shoulder with the men. The wind ruffled their hair and, as one they stepped forward, lifting their arms and swaying to Syndil's rhythm. Desari lifted her voice first, her song rising to blend with Syndil's chant. The ancient words, unlike the more guttural sounds of the healing chant, were a blend of melodies pleasing to the ear. One by one the other women joined in, until the forest rang with their song, aiding Syndil's power, so that energy crackled in the air all around the blackened field. New shoots sprang up even faster, leaves on trees burst forth in vibrant hues of greens. Their feet found the pattern of Syndil's dance and the graceful movement of her hands, and they moved in a circle around the area where she was working, all the while feeding their strength to her. The men formed a tighter ring of protection, wary eyes seeking the interior of the forest surrounding them, taking in the tops of the trees and the ground where Syndil performed what amounted to a miracle. Barack almost missed the slight rise of the soil, as something sinister followed Syndil with stealth, moving just beneath the surface, pushing the dirt up no more than a half an inch. Syndil! Behind and below you! He called to her on their most intimate path, knowing, even as he took to the air, that she never heard anyone or anything when she healed the earth.

Dark Celebration **Finally A Celebration of the Series!**

I have been reading this series faithfully. I did however stop because the stories were just the same over and over just with different characters. I love Mikhail and Raven, they are my favorite couple of the series. I read the back of this book and could not resist. Mikhail is the focus of this book again.
Raven decides to have a Christmas Celebration and all the Carpathian warriors and couples are invited to the Carpathian Mountains for the celebration. All the characters and their loved ones are there. Each chapter tells a little about each one.
Mikhail's heart weighs heavy with his duties, but sees to it that the celebration goes off without a hitch for Raven. I loved the part of him asking Gregori (the dark one) to be Santa.....I was laughing out loud as I read this book. There are so many funny parts. It is not like any other of her books in this series.
Shea gives birth to a son, Savannah is pregnant with twins, Tempest is pregnant, Sara is also. It is nice to see that life is moving on with these characters. Raven is at a time she can conceive, although that story was not told (a little disappointing to me) as Mikhail wants another child. And Julian and Desari decide to try and have a baby.
The celebration at the Inn, is wonderful, and filled with magic.
I really enjoyed this book and hope that Christine continues to tell the stories of these other wonderful characters. We have to know if these women have their babies. I will read on!

    Interesting Carpathian tale

The Carpathians and their human companions come together to celebrate Christmas. However, the clan knows there is not that much to rejoice in this Yuletide season. Fear of extinction is real as there is already a very low birth rate, many are stillborn and even many of those who enter the world alive die as the infant mortality rate is high. On top of that their demonic, vampiric and hunter enemies are mounting serious well planned assaults to eliminate females. Prince Mikhail Dubrinsky worries that he cannot save his people as he knows the evidence is overwhelming that they are an endangered species. He also fears for the safety of his soulmate Raven and their daughter Savannah, but still Mikhail wants more offspring not just to procreate but because he cherishes his two females and wants more to love and nurture. --- His bother Jacques is also concerned especially over the safety of his ¿lifemate¿ Shea, a former human medical doctor, who carries his child. Other Carpathian males are just as worried about the females and the children, but none understands that a betrayal that abets a dark mage may prove more dangerous to survival than the vampires, hunters, and demons that seek to leave the species extinct. --- Though well written, DARK CELEBRATION feels more like a transition book setting the table for future delights. The plot is thin and no couple takes charge of the story line. Still this is well written and will help newcomers obtain a deep understanding of Carpathian customs, lifestyles, and natural enemies while long term fans will know that the treats of 'Dark Desserts' (recipes included) will soon follow with future tales. --- Harriet Klausner

    Truly Captivating!!!

This is one of the best book in the Dark series!
A celebration of their race, of how they can come together as one now that they are growing. A celebration of Christmas and a new future for the Carpathian people.
I love how all of the characters come back into this book. Every hardship that they carried is brought together as the people learn of each other. Some females have limitations with their sociable behaviors and it is interesting to see how they come together as one, going against the solitude that most have lived through their whole lives, and banding as one with a single purpose: Life.
New characters come into play too. Dimitri and Skyler are introduced as a Carpathian couple, though they were introduced initially in the Dark Legend book. And also, another couple comes into play as Christine introduces Manolito De La Cruz and Mary Ann.
This book packs on action as, even though all the Carpathians have banded together, their enemies seems to come in and tear them apart. Their enemies are also banding together and now they are faced with a greater threat, and maybe even the beginning of a war.

I have read this book just as much as I have read Dark Prince. I found it captivating around every turn of the page and it is good to see how all the couples interact together, as they come as one.

    Another Feehan Experience

I have written reviews of author Feehan's work before, and I am not a critic to pull punches, but though this story line started off really good, it ended in disaster. Personally I don't find objectionable problems with an author who writes vampire novels, but this author tends to take her romance to the extreme. I recommend this style of novel for those who like 'kink' and this series should be in the adult 'porn' section rather than in a romance shelf where just any reader can find it. Personally, I feel that you should be over twenty-one (21) to read author Feehan's books; consider that enjoys writing her characters in rape-fantasy situations.

This is a very offense subject and don't feel it should be a standard aspect of any novel constantly in every single series. This novel is particularly offensive due to the fact that there is a sixteen year old girl in the storyline that rather than make sure she's protected and has a choice of her own on who she gives her life and body to; again Feehan writes where the female's in the storyline have no choice and either through force or magic they end up spreading their legs and giving their virginity to whomever at the time the author feels they belong to. Personally I feel that the concept of ownership went out of 'fade' when we did away with slavery, but evidently author Feehan hasn't gotten the message that we've moved into the Twenty-First Century, and is still writing in the Dark Ages.

If you're an avid reader of vampire novels such as I, I suggest everyone boycott this novel series and send a clear message to the author that this sort of romance doesn't belong on the shelf with real romance books, and she really needs to look into the porn industry if this is really the way she views romance and sexuality.

It is good to find out what is going on with the past characters

It is good to find out what is going on with the past characters from the series, as they all come together for Christmas in the Carpathian Mountains. I've read this series twice and i have to say that I have ton disagree with the suggestion that Skyler is in anyway mistreated or in danger because of Dimiti's claim on her. On the contrary. He is very aware of the trauma that her life has been as he lived every moment of it with her. He has not invoked his rights to her as she is too young and fragile emotionally. Although I do suspect that young Skyler will prove herself far more capable than anyone expects in her upcoming story.

    She just keeps doing it...

Once again Mrs. Feehan has given us another special book. I loved catching up w/ the old characters; And some of the cooking scenes w/ our Carpathian men were hilarius! And, to top it all off, she gives us a new couple & the beginnings of Dimitri and Skyler's story. Another great book in the Dark Series!

    Another Hit for Christine Feehan....

I have read all of Christine Feehan's Dark Series and this book was the icing on the cake...I had forgotten about some of the different story lines and this was taking a trip down memory lane revisiting characaters from her other books. I love it and recommend it as a definite read for all of Christine's fans. I cannot wait for her next release. I also have read all of her Ghostwalker series and recommend ALL of them, as they are actually my favorite of all her series. I have the Drake Sisters series sitting on my shelf waiting on me to read. Don't wait, go out and buy this book and read today!

    Just Alright

Wanted to read this one to get more of the beginning characters because I miss them. There was minimal interaction between Mikhail and Raven. The idea was there, and it was well written, just not what I was craving. It felt like a novel of samples of all the prior books in the series, with little backgrounds of each one. I didn't read all the ones before this, and now I don't feel like I have too. Kind of disappointed.

    Good Book

I haven't a clue why I waited to read this book as my last installment of Christine Feehan Dark series. But it was really a well thought out piece of work. Not an easy thing to do with so many characters and twists.
I have been a fan of Feehan's series, The Dark, and I don't think you can go wrong reading this particular series if you are into paranormal. I didn't, really get into the last 2 installments but this book just was interesting and entertaining to read.

    Excellent

This was by far the best of her series. I've been waiting for her to start bringing some of the characters together. The ending kid of left me hanging...I hope to create more books. I would like to see more of the characters getting together more often.

    Love this series

I have read all of the Dark series and even though I'm not quite finished reading this one, I'm looking forward to the next. As always, Christine Feehan does a great job with her details and keeping the stories going. It's wondeful reading.
