Having to wear glasses in elementary school can scar a person for life. Dubbed a nerd at an early age, Cherise Sinclair has been trying to live up to the stereotype ever since. And what better way than being an author?

Known for writing deeply emotional stories, the USA Today Bestselling Author has penned seventeen erotic romance novels, most with a BDSM theme. (Please do not mention the phrase mommy porn in her presence.) I want a Master from the Shadowlands Club

It is rare to find a author who can top the first book in a series. Cherise Sinclair did that and more with Dark Citadel book 2 in the Master of the Shadowlands series. Her writing voice is beautiful and story telling is entertaining. What did it for me was by chapter 3 you already get beautiful descriptions, just enough back story on the characters, sizzling sexual tension, and you will fall in love with the Hero who is gentle and very loving.

“You’re allowed to look, sweetheart,” he murmured, running a finger down her hot cheek. “I enjoy having your eyes on me.”

You have a modest, polite and always obey by the rules Kari the Heroine that was raised by a strict father. She was never that interested in sex until her boyfriend told her about domination and bondage. She agrees to go with him to Shadowlands Club to take lessons. He turns into a jerk and she decides to leave but Master Z catches her before leaving and gets her to stay and keep taking lessons with Master Dan an experienced Dom who never takes a sub for more than one night after the death of his wife a few years back.

Master Dan is the brooding Hero that can not let go of his diseased wife. Dan and his wife never had kids so her death left him feeling lonely. He just wants someone to love him, but he still aches and has guilt from the lost of his wife. Because of his guilt he never takes a sub for more than one night until Kari comes into his life. Now he has so many mixed emotions that he does not know how to deal with them. It was heart-wrenching to read at times because Kari thought he was having the same loving feelings for her but then he would become cold and pull away. It was nice to see his little possessiveness/jealous streak of Kari through out the book. Dan is a sweet talker and very touchy-feely. I fell in love with Dan by chapter 3 but Master Dan you had me at chapter 5 with one little word “Nibble.”

Red,” she whispered. She bit her lip again, and he couldn’t stand it.
“If anyone nibbles those lips, it will be me,” he murmured, licking over the plump bottom one. He tilted his head and took her mouth, then delved deep inside. She tasted of rum and coke and something that was essentially Kari.

It was a joy to watch Kari transform from a mousy school teacher to a beautiful, sensual woman. She falls in love with Dan pretty quick, but who wouldn’t when you have a sexy Dom who gets you and is whispering sweet, erotic words in your ear while caressing you in a gentle and loving way. She also had a backbone as she at times spoke her mind when Dan would get cold on her and back off. She also would bite her tongue and took what ever punishments Dan gave her in a erotic good way.

It was a treat to see Master Z and Jessica through out the book. It was always just enough to let you know how they are doing and seeing that they are still madly in love.

And can not forget The Capture Gardens scene. Oh my it is erotic, fun and intense. Hope we get more of this in the other character stories.

Dark Citadel is a keeper. This book is the one you would want to read on a rainy night in front of a cozy fire with a nice glass of wine. You do not have to like BDSM to enjoy this book. For me that was just an added bonus. It is truly a love story with a Hero and Heroine that are meant to be together and reading how they are going to get their HEA.

She just gets better and better...
This is probably the third book by Ms. Sinclair I have read, and I have to say each one is so good. While her books are not full of flowery prose, you still get the sense of an amazing connection between the characters, and YOU feel connected to the characters.

I could relate to Kari, an inexperienced sub, interested in experiencing the lifestyle, but also trying to reconciling her sexual needs with her conservative and religious upbringing. I could also feel for Master Dan, a widower living with the guilt and sadness of losing his wife.

This was a hard book to put down from the very beginning. I honestly can't think of anything that I didn't like about this book. So that being said, I'm going out to grab the next one in the series.

    The Romance Reviews Top Pick

Blush inducing, pulse racing, wicked ride.

Dark Citadel is book two in Cherise Sinclair's Masters of the Shadowlands series.

Catholic school girl and conservatively raised Kerry has been told she is frigid in bed. Blaming the loss of her fiancé on her lack of bedroom skills, she agrees to join new acquaintance Buck at the beginner's class at a private BDSM club, Shadowlands. As uncomfortable with the idea as she is, Kerry sees it as an opportunity to overcome the obstacle keeping her from her own happily ever after. Unfortunately Buck and Kerry quickly clash wills and part ways. Kerry, ready to leave for home, is given the opportunity to stay and join the class under the care of Master Dan.

Master Dan, having lost his wife three years ago, isn't looking for a relationship. He will take a sub for one night and one night only, and thanks to his prowess he is never short on subs. But after meeting Kerry, one night becomes two and his will begins to crumble.

Of course the sex is HOT. Hello. We are in a BDSM club. Master Dan was pushing my comfort level right along with Kerry's. But the naked playing wasn't the only thing causing the blush on my cheeks. Master Dan's tender moments as he cuddled Kerry and encouraged her made me a puddle of goo. The way he paid close attention to every detail about her experience endeared him to me. My heart broke as he struggled to keep his heart closed off while everything about her was tearing those barriers down. Hand me a hanky, I've started to drool. Or cry. Or both.

Kerry's journey of self-discovery moved the plot along with ease, but it was tension brought about by her ex's pursuit that kept my nerves on edge. Both plots combined for an explosive and climatic ending that absolutely satisfied.

For those who are interested in what the BDSM scene is all about, this is a great book to read as a light introduction. It really helped me to see the caring intentions behind a Dominant's actions. And, for those who enjoy romances with strong well-written characters, Ms Sinclair delivers. She is a master of showing, not telling, and makes her cast come alive. So grab a cold drink ('cause you are going to need coolin' off), close the drapes and get ready for a wickedly-wild hot ride.

    Awesome read

Well written and highly believable this is the best series of its type out there. I will most assuredly be getting the rest of the series. Any fans of the Black Jewel series needs to try this.

How 50 Shades of Crap has managed to outsell this gem I'll never know.

    Each book gets better

I really liked the first book, Club Shadowlands, but this one is even better. Where the first one introduces us to many of the characters (mostly the Doms) that will have their own books, this second book gives more details about the leading Dom and his Sub. And you still get to learn more about the others at Club Shadowlands.

And each book gets better. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

    Loved it

I really like the character development, and story line... Yes there is sex, yes it is not vanilla sex, but tastefully presented... This is not for underage or even young adults... But for mature curious adults great read

Easy fun read, very close to reality that I have experienced

I think she's a great author and quite accurate of what one might experience at a club or private party. The only thing that isn't realistic is that the masters in the book are all extremely good looking! Not so in clubs. These clubs have been around for almost two decades. Reminds me of a great club in Hotlanta 15 yrs ago, sadly it was closed down.....

My review from Goodreads listed below:

This was a good second installment to this series. I liked the relationship between Master Dan and Kari.

Master Dan was a strong character in this story that had a hard time getting past his wife’s death and his guilt. I liked seeing him evolve and come to terms with his feeling about her death and his feeling about Kari. His questioning of Kari to get to know her wants and providing her multiple choice answers showed he understood her reluctance in voicing her thoughts.

Kari was a ‘follow the rules’ woman who felt ashamed about her lack of desires until she took some lessons at ‘Club Shadowlands’. She soon found out what she was missing was the right Master and that desire can be achieved in different ways…“My God, no wonder people like being tied up.”

I can relate to Kari in may ways. Raised in catholic school opressive fathers but she got past it and found a man to meet her needs.
