Surviving tenth grade is the least of Cat Colvin's worries.

Cat Colvin wants more than anything to just be an "average" teenager and blend in, but having found out the secret of her adoption has Cat questioning her entire life. Unfortunately, there are much deeper and darker secrets being withheld from her that may prove to threaten her very existence. Cat will be forced to make a choice: stay in Astoria and possibly endanger all that she loves, or flee and hide amongst her kind.

Friendships will be tested, family bonds will be tried, and even Cat herself will be pushed to her limits both emotionally and physically; all while trying to maintain a somewhat normal relationship with her boyfriend Ryan. What is actually going on in the quaint port town of Astoria, and are Cat and her loved ones prepared for the dark days that loom ahead? Find out in this continuation to the "*...thrilling, unputdownable story," The Childe.

Although I really enjoyed the book, where is the next one. I am finding that an author will start a series than years (literally) will go by with no end to series. Now I will only buy books that are just novels or have completed series. Shame on them!

Dark Days is the continuation of Cat Colvin's story and I was really able to see how this team of writers have progressed in every aspect that makes for a truly great writer. Despite having months in between book 1 and book 2 I instantly was sucked back into the world that C.A. Kunz has created. Their voice has grown in strength and I was pleased with how this cast of characters became more complex. I got a much stronger sense of the characters' personalities and the role each played in the unfolding of the story which followed book 1 with one surprise after another.

Reviewed by Karen P. for Readers Favorite "Dark Days" by C.A. Kunz is the second in the 'Childe' series for young adults. We again meet Cat Colvin as she learns about her adoption and her unusual physiology as a half human/half vampire sixteen year old. Cat has a lot to contend with and her friends are not always keen to help. They have their own agendas and their own set of secrets which keep the reader wondering if there are any "normal" characters in the story. Three young girls have been kidnapped and forced into the vampire world and they have an agenda to do Cat in for past perceived injustices - or just for the fun of it. They reek havoc on the community and take captive a local high school biology teacher for their "feeding" needs. Everything comes to a head when Cat must choose to remain at home in Astoria or join the coven in which she will be trained in the ways of the vampire world. She gets a real education when discovering the secret identities of her adoptive parents and her adoptive brother, all of whom must adhere to the covenants of their own unique group. Although this book did not captivate my attention as did the first book, it was well worth the read simply to try to ascertain what teenagers will do in times of stress! The waxing and waning of loyalties and commitments was a joy to read as, despite the netherworld characteristics of most of the characters, their problems seem relevant to most of the reading audience.
