    A Page Turner!

Dark is definitely a good way to describe this unique paranormal romance. I'm not one that usually likes stories in the first person, but the author managed to bring together two first person perspectives (Hero and heroine) and make it work which is extremely hard to do in my book.

The story begins with the predator hunting his prey. It's a detailed murder scene, that is greusome, yet erotic in it's own twisted way. In enters crime scene detective Katherine Wells, who is hot on the trail of the Antoinette killer. Burnt beheaded bodies keep turning up, and in her pursuit for clues she encounters the man of her dreams.

Alexander is an elder vampire who struggles to keep what he is a secret. Killing isn't personal, it's for survival. One bite though, and his victims can become undead. The only way to prevent it is to be-head and then burn his victims. So when Katherine's investigations get too close to the truth, the vampire world wants her eliminated.

Katherine discovers Alexanders supernatural secret about the same time Alexander realizes she's the one he's ordered to kill, but fate has another outcome in store, when both Alexander and Katherine work together to cover up the mess they became trapped in. Destined soulmates, on a mission to make sure the vampire world is never found out about, and to make Katherine one of them in the end.

It's erotic, unpredictable, and a well-written dark adventure. As the author brings you a suspenseful tale that will keep you turning the pages from beginning to end.

Dark & intense with good character development

146 pages. While I prefer my books longer, this story did a nice job of providing a starting point, a story line with fleshed out & interesting supporting characters & a race to the finish with critical crisis resolved along the way. I especially appreciated the sexual tension that was allowed to build between our heroine & soulmate. (I cant bring myself to call Alex a hero based on my conflicted feelings about what he did during the story & pretty gruesomely at that). Katherine, our heroine, displayed real emotion & anger that added a lot of tension to the tale vs other stories where the lead characters see each other, maybe shake hands & then are going at each other like rabid bunnies. I really enjoyed the trip I was taken on but couldnt quite eek out 5 stars. I caught myself occasionally feeling that Katherine wasnt in character when for many years she was devoted to the law in pretty black & white terms but then literally dove into "the other side" with no conflict or angst about her actions. I found myself two or three times mentally hitting a snag on this issue. That said... this was a short story not a 350 page novel. This will be a keeper for me & will reread it in the future. If you enjoy a strong, kick butt heroine with a bit of mouth on her and hot sex with some tension built into the relationship this is a good bet.

    Great vampire book

This book was interesting from the first page on. I loved how it opened up with a killing from the vampire right off the bat. It gave it a dark, edgy vibe that really made me want to read more. The idea of a vampire and the detective investigating the deaths he caused who fall in love is really intriguing and not the usual overdone vampire story. What I didn't like was how it was more about their relationship and we only got a little of the actual storyline of her as a detective. It turned from a crime/thriller into a love story real fast and I just wish that there were more thriller moments than there actually were. One other thing that I didn't get was how the vampire suddenly had telekenisis halfway through the story and that was the only time he used it. I feel like it was just like, "oh yeah, he can do that because that makes it easier" instead of making him have to work to do what he was doing at the moment. Other than that, it was a good story full of passion yet scary vampires that can rip your head of in the blink of an eye. I was glad to get a break from the lovey-dovey vampire stories and read about so pretty kick-butt vampires for a change.

Dark is back in vampire novels

This is a highly charged, erotic and dark novel. The vampires here don't sparkle, or feed from bloodbanks. They are predators and sexy! If you like adult vampire stories, this is a must read.

    Fascinating story, fabulous dialogue

I am not a vampire book lover per se, but I love a dark story and a good romance and this was both. Mr. Chase weaves a great tale of an elegant vampire with the trials with the tribulations of a Cleveland police department beautifully. He takes us back and forth between the two worlds and oddly, we're rooting for both sides. I especially liked the police dept. as the dialogue was so realistic, I felt like a fly on the wall. The heroine, Katherine is sexy, smart and tough.
The unusual pairing and compelling story sucked me right in and I had to find out what happened. If you're looking for a hot, erotic and dark story this is the one. I highly recommend Dark is the Night, a well-written adventure you won't forget.

Good premise for the story but very boring in reality. Pages up

Good premise for the story but very boring in reality. Pages upon pages of description that are completely unnecessary. I found myself skipping page after page to get to the meat of the story. Also it states 244 pages but e-book is only 164, thank God.
