For ten years, Maddie Temple has been free from the insane mind-link of her twin sister, Sarah. Now Sarah's back in Maddie's head but under another's control—and death is on her mind. Plagued by unanswered questions, a mysterious heritage, and a mind-manipulating predator, Maddie struggles to maintain a grip on her own sanity as she wavers between trusting the men (one in particular) who can help her and listening to compelling taunts from outside. VERDICT DeStefano's chilling, mesmerizing tale draws readers through a horrifying mental nightmare and brings them safely, if not unscathed, to the other side. Fans of psychological suspense—especially the clinical kind—may find this especially fascinating. DeStefano (To Save a Family) lives in Lawrenceville, GA.

From my goodreads review: I was amazingly surprised at this dark tale of anger, love and finally redemption. "Dark Legacy" tells story of two twins with psychic abilities, and the chance to use their gift for either good or evil a fight to free themselves from those who want control over them, their ability to influence peoples minds though thoughts and dreams. The Temple twins had their connection was severed early on, as Sara went into a coma while in their teens. Maddie went on with her life, tried to be happy, and into the medical field . Alas, someone is waking up Sara and wanting to use the gifts as a weapon. This premise created Ms. DeStefano kept me turning one page after another, her characters rich and full, the landscape dark and full of rich colours that reminded me of Tim Burton film or of Dean Koontz in his dark tales of Chris Snow"Fear Nothing". Not only do you have a pretty good thriller, but you have a decent romance too. The romance didn't feel forced, but added another dimension to the story. It seems that this book has received some negative reviews, but maybe I'm not as picky as long as the story is good, and I believe that "Dark Legacy" is a pretty decent and easy read. I do agree with some in that the dialogue is written so that you can feel the unraveling of Maddie's' and Sara's psyche, and make the book seem darker...really it reminds me of the dialogue in some of Steven King books, this is not a fluffy bunny happy story, more of a dystopia really. I am one who is looking forward to Ms. DeStafano's next installment of the Temple Twins, and I hope I am just as pleased as I was as I am with the current work.

I felt the story stuttered and was almost hard to read.

I agree. A review is what you think of the book and not a summary. But if you want to get your message across, try being tactful, polite, and sounding intelligent. Then maybe people might listen.

This book had good intentions but fell short when it came to carrying them out. Often times it was hard to understand and the wriiting style while decent felt very jumbled. It could have been a great book :/

I downloaded the book free so won't complain that I wasted my money. I'm not a fan of romance novels so maybe it's my fault for reading it. The book sounded like it would be a good suspense novel. But the suspense could have been accomplished so much better instead of repeating the same thing over and over and OVER again!!! Why not develop more of the characters and their history? Instead I read, "I'm here sweetheart" about 50 times in this short novel. And the glaring anger of Jarred and Maddie is over the top and interrupts the current point, making it difficult to follow along. I finally found myself skipping whole paragraphs. It's a shame that a great idea was wasted by the writing. Sorry if this sounds too harsh - just giving my honest opinion.

This book was okay, but not anything special. The romance was very, very unrealistic. Also, the psychic part of it confused me. The book stated that the twins were psychic... but then it seemed like everybody was getting into everybody else's heads. I'm just glad that the dream states where in italics so we could tell the difference between that and reality. The characters were flat, and there were often repeated phrases that were hard to comprehend: "Our minds brushed against eachother". I'm glad this was a free book. It was not that good, and hard to get through. Books usually take me a week; this took me a month.

It was free when I got it, and I've found some really good books on the free list. This one is not one of those for me. Psychically connected twins being manipulated as weapons, is a great idea. I wanted to get attached to the characters, I wanted to know what was going to happen but it just didn't flow. Maybe it's just me, but it was hard to follow and repetative.

I have a category of books I usually refer to as supermarket bodice-rippers. Real readers usually avoid these at all costs, but once in a while, they're good for a couple of hours of mindless engagement when the book doesn't really have to be the true focus of the moment. Unfortunately, I can't even say that this book is as good as a supermarket bodice-ripper. I can't even really figure out how this thing made it to PRINT in the first place. It's choppy and confusing and just plain stupid. The plot doesn't track, the characters are unbelieveable, and it's just a mess. It was like having a tooth pulled with no novocaine--and yes, I know that's a cliche, but this book doesn't deserve anything more than a cliche in terms of description. It purports to be some kind of twin esp thing but even that falls apart. I am so glad I didn't pay money to read this book.

This book was about 200 pages too long. To fill the pages the author puts in loads of confusing dream sequences and out of body experiences sprinkled with sex scenes. The only likeable character is the male doctor hero with the psychic connection to our going-crazy lead character. About a half of the way through I started speed reading. The positive point is I did want to know what happened. However, if I had any psychic powers, I would not have bought this book.

Twin sisters Maddie and Sarah Temple inherited something paranormal that neither understood and their mom hid behind a facade of denial. The siblings had each other though they were opposites as Maddie was light and Sarah was dark. However, a horrific accident shatters the family as their dad dies and Sarah becomes comatose. Maddie and her mom move on. However after a decade of not hearing Sarah's voice in her head, Maddie begins to hear her twin. Her mom lied to her re Sarah and now Maddie knows her sister has been part of a government experiment to deploy psychic skills as a weapon. Their effort has released the dark side of Sarah without Maddie's light to mute the evil. Maddie vows to save her sibling and overcome the DARK LEGACY curse that passed through generations of her ancestors including her mother; her boyfriend, Jarrod Keith vows to save both twins. This is a great twisting thriller starring twins who are yin and yang to one another and a hero willing to die to keep his beloved safe while helping her find her sibling, who is more in the shadows that mute the dark. The story line is fast-paced from the onset especially once Maddie knows the truth about her DARK LEGACY compounded by her mother's betrayal and desertion. She and Harrod make a strong team, but their fight against those who have experimented with Sarah seems like climbing Mt. Everest in high heels (even if we have come a long way). Harriet Klausner

I don't encounter many books I don't like, but this is one of them. I'm almost finished with it, and I will complete it, since I can't stand to "waste" a book, but I really found this book difficult to follow. The character development is very lacking. It felt like the author expected the reader to be able to figure out what was going on without supplying any background info (or very little). The author seems hell-bent on creating a story that never slows down, and she succeeded in that, but sacrificed clarity for action. I really did not care for this book at all-only gave it two stars because the story line isn't bad.

This isn't the type of book I would usually read, but it was a Free Fridays book so I gave it a shot. I really liked it and now I am planning on reading the sequel. This book was fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat.

The booknstarts out strong with a giid unfolding of the plot. The characters are refreshing and a but almost a bit to exaggerated. The storyline is promising but lacks any real originality or creative insight. The book falls apart at the climax and the conclusion was horribly written. Its a quick read but there is definitly better psychological fiction to read. If you have time to kill then its a average read. Absolutely nothing in this book stands out, its AVERAGE.

The storyline in Dark Legacy was rather difficult to follow from the very beginning and only got a little easier as the story progressed. A center of covert government scientists is partially believable, but a brotherhood of psychic warriors was pushing the envelope of believability, in this novel about telekinesis, and telepathic abilities. It is hard to believe that the main characters in the book, Maddie and her sister Sarah Temple, all of a sudden realized and developed their psychic gifts in such a short amount of time. There should have been some indication of (either one or both of) their extra special powers throughout their growing teenage years. Details of the events describing the past for these main characters is somewhat sketchy, and does not add enough to fill in the storyline for better understanding of what got these two women to their current situation. This book gets 2 stars. It was a yawner and the story was weak. It took me a very long time to read this book because I just could not conjure up enough enthusiasm to compel me to pick it up and keep reading for long enough periods of time to finish it quickly.
