Dark Moon Presentsby Stan Swanson (Editor), Jennifer Word (Editor), Frances A. Hogg (Editor), Araminta Star Matthews (Editor)
One day soon-perhaps even sooner than any of us imagine-the dead will rise. They will claw their way out of their graves and sate themselves on the supple flesh of the terrified masses. Those bitten will fall and rise again, cursed with an undeniable hunger for the meaty organs of the living. They will defy thousands of years of human evolution as they devour raw meat like undead cannibals, and bodies will litter the streets. Gather your cache of melee weapons. Round up your survival gear. Kiss your children good night. Because they are coming. They've been dead a long time. And they're hungry. So very hungry. Dark Moon Presents: ZOMBIES! Is a collection of 15 tales that will not only keep you awake long after dark, but also make you wonder if it will ever be safe to sleep again.

"Dark Moon Presents: Zombies" is an anthology of 15 zombie short stories that makes an excellent foray into this particular genre of literature. The stories in this work run the gamut from people surviving zombification in the not-so-distant future... to a zombified ex-Roman legion in the forests of First Century Germany. One of the greatest stories in this particular book is AE Stueve's "I, Zombie" which was just turned into a short film by J. Buckner entitled "I Am Alive."
This anthology of 15 short horror stories is written by a variety of authors in a variety of styles, but all are about zombies and the Zombie Apocalypse. Normally zombies aren't my thing, but this anthology made it fun to be scared and read about zombies - time frames were anywhere from the Roman Empire's invasion of Germania through the near future, and styles ranged from an interesting, Voodoo-themed first-person narrative to a 3rd person narrative (which is tricky), and included everything from the typical, shambling zombies through zombies that were almost the same as a living person. One story is even told from the point of view of a dog, which I found particularly fascinating. Each of the writers is obviously a master of their trade; the stories are all flawless, beautifully descriptive and wonderful to read - perfect little zombie-horror gems. I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for something wonderful and spooky to read for Halloween, or any time of the year.
I read a lot of zombie anthologies. I love The Walking Dead graphic series. I collect short story books filled with nothing but zombie tales. I can honestly say that this particular anthology has the BEST collection of zombie tales I've ever seen. I liked every single story in this digest. I love reading zombie literature, both dark and serious, and light and comedic. This collection is on the darker side, just to forewarn you. It's dark, disturbing and deliciously sinister. This is an array of talented horror authors (most of whom are new to me), but I expect to be seeing a lot more from ALL of these wonderful writers very soon. They obviously know their craft well. Bravo, Dark Moon Digest, on delivering an excellent new zombie collection. For any zombie literature lovers out there, this is a MUST read, and a collector's item!
