    Loved it!

I was expecting DARK NEST to be good. It was a 2009 Prism Award Winner, but besides that, I love the author's book, THE STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL TALE OF MISS PERCY PARKER. Still, it took me about three weeks to start it, because I don't have an ebook reader and don't care for reading books on my computer. But once I opened it, I read it in one long gulp, my index finger constantly pressing the Page Down button.

In this futuristic novella, psychically gifted humans are split onto two different airships, or "Nests," and sent by the Homeworld on a space mission. One ship is called "Light Nest" and the other "Dark Nest." Light Nest's Chief Counsel Ariadne Corinth finds out her former lover, Chief Counsel Kristov Haydn from the Dark Nest-the most psychically gifted man she's known-has died.

This isn't the first unexplained and unexpected death on the Dark Nest. Lately Ariadne has noticed a growing rupture between the two ships. Then Kristov's sister tells her he was was murdered, and the Homeworld is behind it. Ariadne flies to the Dark Nest to investigate, and finds out Haydn's sister was right about the Homeworld. Now it's up to her to try to save the psychics in both nests.

DARK NEST is different in style from the atmospheric and mythological STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL TALE OF MISS PERCY PARKER. What they both have in common is great characters, a stirring story and can't-stop-reading writing. I highly recommend this.

    I Also Recommend:

Get a Novella sized dose of Ms. Hieber's imaginatively shaded world building, while we wait for part two of the Strangely Beautiful Series (late April 2010).

I am a huge fan of The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker. So I was excited to find this book from Leanna Renee Hieber. DARK NEST is just a Novella so the themes and characters do not have as much time to be established as in 'STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL', but Ms Hieber brings her same gift for atmospheric yet gritty fantasy to bear in this short adventure in space. The setting shows a common affinity for the gothic in both books. But, beside that the radically different setting shows an astounding versatility on the part of Ms. Hieber. I intend to follow here literary explorations wherever she may decide to go!

Romantic Science Fiction at its best

Its not surprising to find this book has won awards. Leanna, again, draws us into her story with seamless world building. The characters are compelling and the plot timeless. I can't wait for the sequel.
