Enjoyed this book very much. Ana's courage touched my heart, and Eoghan's struggle to let go of the past was believable. I can't wait to finish this series.--Darlene Frankln

On a bluster fall day, settle down with Elizabeth Ludwig’s Dark Road Home and a cup of Irish Breakfast tea. I predict that you will have a lovely afternoon.  The second book in the Edge of Freedom series is as satisfying as the first. This story centers on Ana, another of the Irish lasses living in the Ashberry Street boarding house that was first introduced in No Safe Harbour. Ana has tried to escape the intrigues and violence that simmered in her native Ireland, but trouble still finds her in the shape of a mysterious uncle and a love interest that both threaten the peace she so desperately seeks.  Mystery, suspense, and a love story that seems destined to end in heartbreak will keep you reading Dark Road Home. Elizabeth Ludwig creates characters you’ll wish to have as your friends and dialogue that will have you hearing the lilt of the Irish as you read. No need to worry if you haven’t read the first book in the series, but you’ll want to after reading Dark Road Home, and you’ll eagerly await her next release. In exchange for an honest review, Bethany House and the author provided me with a complimentary copy of this book.

One of the best historical romantic suspense books I've read in a long time. Ana Kavanaugh, carries scars from her childhood that pull her away from God, Eoghan Hamilton carries a burden too heavy for him to give up. When the two meet in one of the very places they vow never to step foot in again, a church, they are thrust into a chain of circumstances of deceit and danger and love. Along with beloved characters from book one, No Safe Harbor, are returns of someone evil. Someone wanting to put an end to all that Ana and Eoghan hold dear. A page-turning suspense, rich in detail.

Dark Road Home is the second book in a series. I haven't read the first one, but found this book to be very understandable without the prior knowledge. It was a wonderful read. In the story, Ana flees to America to escape a terrible past which catches up with her years later. She falls in love with Eoghan who also has fled to America because of a terrible past. The two fall in love and must escape death and face traumatic events. The book is a quick and easy read.

Dark Road Home by Elizabeth Ludwig is the second book in her Edge of Freedom series.  I haven't read the first one, but this was a good stand-alone book.  I had a hard time putting it down, so I spent most of yesterday reading.  The main characters, Ana and Eoghan, have tragic pasts that have caused them to reject church and God, but both find themselves at Our Lady of Deliverance church.  Eoghan is dropped on the church's doorstep, and agrees to be their handy man for "just a day or two", while Ana's friend convinces her to help with the women and children's shelter at the church, "just once".  Both are welcomed in by Father Ed and the Sisters, and one or two visits become more. Both Ana and Eoghan's pasts catch up with them, and they find themselves embroiled in trouble involving an Irish underground group.  There is a lot of suspense and some really dark characters involved.  Ultimately, Ana and Eoghan have to decide if they can trust each other, and if they can put their trust in God.  This is a page turner!  The story is set in New York city around the turn of the century, and I appreciated the historical details.  I really liked the main characters.  Both are flawed, believable, and endearing.  I highly recommend this book.  It is historical, suspenseful, and a Christian romance all in one.  It looks like I now have another author to read! I was given this book by Bethany House for my review, but my opinions are my own.
